Exhibits A and B of Nighties-as-Dresses...

May 24, 2007 · Daily Outfits

I realized that both Wednesday and today (Thursday) I wore things that were intended to be nighties as a proper dress. This isn't that uncommon in Emily-land, but I usually don't do it twice in a row, so I thought it was worth sharing. I really love that "flapper"ish mesh slip on the left. I love the blue one, too, because I can't ever find enough blue dresses that are to my liking.

I think that they actually both come off as totally legit!

I think they look great. Very romantic. I'm curious to know your position on the idea of certain style (say, nighties or slips as proper dresses) and age. I love this look, and I sported it in my 20s. I don't know that I could do so in my 40s. Certainly not at work, but what about for weekends? Your thoughts, please.

I love the idea of slips/nighties as dresses, just haven't had the courage to wear them myself - yet - but you look great! Thanks for sharing about Dottie Angel, I love her slips and bags - I also love reading both of your blogs!

lovely!...but I still can't get over your quilt and perfect wall colour.....le sigh.....looks around at the white walls and thinks about painting soon! : )

Oh, and I adore the fashions of the 1920's! I have been pondering recreating a couple of lightweight cotton frocks from about 1925 for the summer....in voile or lawn....yum! : )

TOTALLY legal! The only crime you're guilty of committing is of looking so fabulous in them! Oy!

oh my!! i just purchased a vintage slip the other day and can't wait to wear it since you've inspired me!! but i must ask you, and the slip-expert: what do you wear underneath your slips worn as dresses?? perhaps its just my particular slip, but it certainly is not opaque enough for wearing outside the bedroom... ;)

They do come of as legit! And kudos to you for having two great blogs. It's hard to keep up with one for me!

have you read 'dottie angel' - she has an etsy shop selling vintage slips which she has turned into dresses. They are divine!
