Thing One:
That I am actually a secret agent.
Not only a secret agent, but a blonde one. We have been getting hit with a lethal combination of the last hurrahs of Winter & the petulant winds of Spring, so it has been by turns very rainy, very windy, and very strange (and sometimes all three). I love my wigs, and I love to wear them when it rains. It is like a hat + perfect, if totally unbelievable, hair in one. I especially love it paired with my wonderful trench (a jewel from H&M) and some non-nonsense black heels.
Thing two:
(Since I'm wearing it in the photo)
I have found the perfect red lipstick.
Which I've been looking for for a long time. I know I haven't even been alive for that long, but I promise you that somewhere there is a little mini-landfill that contains only the discarded less-than-perfect red lipsticks that I've been duped into buying over and over and over. Each time I really think: "This is it! Not too pink, not too orangey...".
But I really have found "it". It's not Shiseido. It's not some other fancy-pants brand.
It costs $4 and can only be found at, where else, but Target.
It is this special Target-signature-lipstick, L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche lipstick in "Target Red". You might've heard of it, because it's kind of a weird little promotion, but the lipstick is amazing. First off, it's absolutely wearable and comfortable. Not too orange, not too pink, a very nice consistency (not too opaque or translucent). Just perfect. I mean, it might not be perfect on everyone, but it was for me.
The crummy thing is that it's surely just a fleeting promotion, and I know I'm going to get all horde-y and weird and store like 3 extra tubes in the freezer (which I'm currently doing with my favorite lotion), because everything that I like gets discontinued. Josiah is still blaming the disappearance of "C2", that half-Coke, half-Diet Coke amalgamation on me...claiming that I didn't buy it enough or show enough support for it.
I know that it disappeared because I liked it.

Girl,
You have such a way with words. I LOVE the image you paint of a mini-landfill full of your old, discarded, un-loved red lipsticks. It's so tragic, yet odd. I think there is another mini-landfill somewhere containing various deodorants that I've discarded in half-used containers. I can't seem to find the RIGHT one for me. So, I keep buying them, and discarding them. Wasteful? Yes. I need to get a handle on this. If only I could be so lucky as you, and stumble upon the magic brand. You look smashing as a secret agent. I love the wig on you. You are perfectly inimitable.

Oh, Emily...you are too wonderful. Love the wig and coat combo!

Oh. My. God. I love SO MUCH that you wear a wig when it's rainy. You are my new fashion hero. And I might have to copy.

You are so cute as a blonde! Have you discovered yet that we blondes don't have more fun? Shhh...don't tell.
I will have to try that lipstick as I too have been hunting for the perfect red. Thanks for the tip!

hahaahah i was just talking with someone about how at this point in my life i'm much more a lip gloss person than lipstick just because it's quicker/easier to re-apply and how i always find a good cheap brand but once i'm used to it they ALWAYS discontinue it and i have to begin all over again. we'll i've stopped looking for some months now, and as a result my lips are quite boring. i want to begin the search again but man..WHY do that do that? I would totally store it in the freezer too. also if worse comes to worse and you're on your second to last tube of all created, you could maybe tote it with you as reference for its replacement.

We feel the same way about great small bars with super unknown bands. As soon as we start to fall into a routine of a Friday night with the band and the bar, the band goes on tour and the bar gets a new owner, turns into condos or a Gap. The wig is cute!

hi emily! what a nice surprise to find your new blog! do you have any advice for buying wigs? do you own any more expensive real hair ones? i want to buy one or two...my hair is short so they will be easy plus my hair is thinning so eventually wearing one might become more of a necessity and i thought it might be fun to start wearing them now.

I completely love this new blog. You're so glamorous.
Emma · April 17, 2007 at 11:32 AM
So fun! And of course the coat is to die for! And so is the lipstick... Definitely a lady worthy of Guy Noir!
Beth · April 17, 2007 at 11:43 AM
OMG---you are adorable as a blonde, too! I am starting to sound like your own personal stalker, aren't I? lol I'm not, I promise. I'm too lazy to ever be someone's stalker! lol
Anyway...I love the blonde-ness...love the trenchy...and I do love the red lipstick, though it's a color I have never been able to wear. I look best with muted earthy-tone types of colors. But, I digress.
Have fun today, Agent Blonde Diva.

I have also been looking for a good red, so I'll have to try that out - thanks for the tip!
Kathy · April 17, 2007 at 05:40 PM
okay, C2 is still around, Josiah is just blind. I know because I recently and successfully convinced Lee to switch from regular soda to C2 and it can be found in any Kroger in Nashville. Maybe Athens, GA is lacking.
love you!
elizabeth · April 17, 2007 at 08:08 PM
I'm a red lipstik girl too. Does it make your lips peel? To me it seems all the "perfect" blue reds do that. Ofcourse,to me,peeling lips are a small price to pay for that perfect red!
jungle dream pagoda · April 17, 2007 at 10:14 PM
Pssst, don't tell anyone, but if you can't find C2....Tab is the same thing.
Nicole · April 18, 2007 at 02:44 AM
the wig, is amazing, just perfect on you!!!!!!!

how much do i love that you wear a wig in place of a hat! :) (a lot) Makes me a little less nervous to go blond. I just started the process of lightening my hair from dark dark, almost black, brown to blond last week with my hair dresser. So maybe blond by the fall, but we shall see. my favorite red is a Maybelline Superstay in this bright cherry red.

May I ask who the designer of those glasses are? They're delicious!
jennifer · April 20, 2007 at 03:51 AM
Hi Emily, I was at Target today getting pull-ups. We're similar in coloring, though my hair isn't as dark, and has been highlighted for a long time anyway. I just had it done and even though I asked for lots of lowlights because I wasn't feeling like myself, I wound up blonder than ever. Feeling a bit washed out so thought, well, what's to lose--it might be the right thing. I bought that lipstick, and you're right. Not orange, not pink, not goopy either. It is a good red, and I haven't had one in a while. Sometimes it really makes the difference. I wouldn't have gotten it on my own, that's for sure, so thanks!

I like everything you wrote, and the only thing I really felt I needed to comment on is, that yes, things being discontinued sucks! I'm not a big lipstick person, or lotion, but when it came to the udon noodle soup from Trader Joe's that was in the refrigerator section with that wierd little spongy tofu that had no self-stated purpose but was somehow good and needed to be there, that soup. DISAPPEARED. And I swear I was up to buying two at each grocery visit, and somehow not enough of me's got to it in time, and it's gone. And it's sad. So I totally know what you're saying. It's rough out there...and it's hard to get too attached to things.
