(UPDATE: COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED, AND I'LL EMAIL THE FOLKS THAT THE R.N.G. CHOOSES SHORTLY! Thanks so much for playing along, and for all of your marvelous suggestions/tips/recommendations)
Inspired by Heidi's fabric clean-out (and by our impending move), I decided to judiciously pare down my fabric collection. I cut most of my large pieces in half (especially prints that I know I'll never use a yard or more of) and folded and neatly set aside others that I just know I won't use.
I bundled them up in 5 fat piles, each probably containing around 15 different fabrics...some Japanese, vintage, linen, novelty prints, upholstery-weight, dots, etc. and tied each one with a pretty grosgrain ribbon and a vintage card of buttons.
Aaaaaand, now they are up for grabs!
This is how it'll work: (Like a few of my give-aways in the past) just leave a comment recommending anything...a book, a film, a recipe, etc.
Be sure that your email address is provided in your comment , so that I can get in touch with you to get your mailing address (and, I am sorry to all of my international applets, but I'd like to keep it just to United States addresses to help keep the shipping costs down).
Then, after a day or so, I'll use the great Random Number Generator to pick 5 comments and pop the 5 bundles into 5 flat-rate boxes and send them on their way! Hooray!
I made certain that each bundle has some really good stuff (Japanese or vintage fabric), so they should all be pretty equally wonderful.
Happy Commenting!
xoxo

I just finished "An Irish Country Doctor". Wellingtons and train travel in the 1960s reminds me of the Black Apple style.

Oops. I meant, "The Lives of Others."
Robin · May 21, 2008 at 12:22 PM
If you haven't seen it already, "The Lives of Other" (Das Leben der Anderen)is an amazingly powerful, and compelling movie.
Thanks, Robin
P.S. Great blog - I love to read it at work. :)

The book I recommend is Marley & Me by John Grogan. Great book that touches the heart, and reminds people what joy and love pets bring into our lives!
Brianna Dupuy · May 21, 2008 at 12:18 PM
I recommend the book "This is My Beloved" by Walter Benton (1949). It is a book of romantic poetry, love and loss, and was treasured by my grandparents.
I am having so much fun reading through these recommendations - I've already jotted down a recipe to test and a couple books to look up!

i love your work as well - and your bundles are great.
i am going out on a limb and recommending GOOGLE READER!
It is one way that I can organize all the blogs I go to and I am actually about to go to about 20 sites in the time it took me to go to 4 or 5. You can go to google - type in google reader and find out how to set it up. it took me about an hour.

hurray fabric!
Here's a suggested EASY favorite and refreshing recipe for summer... Crab Pasta Salad
Large Shell Pasta (1 package)
Imitation Crab (1 package, break into bits)
Fresh Dill Weed (chopped fine, handful)
Iceburg Lettuce (1/2 head, chopped)
2 Lemons
2 Oranges
1/2 cup of Mayo (approx.)
pinch of salt
Cook pasta (al dente) in boiling water with a pinch of salt.
Drain and rinse with cold water to cool. Add crab, lettuce, mayo, dill weed and juice of 1 lemon. Mix. Slice up 2nd lemon and 2 oranges and place them all over top of salad. Refridgerate until ready to serve, no longer than 2 hours. You don't want the lettuce to wilt. Enjoy!

Are you ever amazed by how many comments you get? Wow... Giveaways are always great. I really hope you consider moving to Portland, Oregon- I'm from Eugene, Oregon, and it is a fantastic state. A great movie filmed there was Bandits, with Bruce Willis, Billie Bob Thornton, and Cate Blanchett- shows you some nice scenery, including some of the Oregon Coast...

813 ! Wooow ! I was just telling to myself "well, you'll never win a giveway if you never even try to, so for once..." when I read your international applet forbidding...
Well at least it doesn't prevent me (yes I am trying to make you guilty ;o) ) from sharing the recipe idea I just read in a magazine : a lavender rice cake ! You just have to mix 2-3 teaspoons of dried lavender flowers with your sugar, and then cook your cake as usual. They advice to serve it with green tea infused with lavender too, and some english cream. I really look forward to test/taste this flowery cake...

A book I read several months ago and really enjoyed is: Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.
Here is a recipe that is a must have in South Louisiana for Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations.
SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE
4 large sweet potatoes or 3 cups mashed potatoes
½ cup sugar (can use brown or white sugar)
½ cup butter, softened
2 eggs, well beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup milk
Boil sweet potatoes until tender in a heavy saucepan; drain off excess water. Mash potatoes with a fork. Preheat oven to 350o. Combine sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla and milk in a mixing bowl and mix well. Add mashed sweet potatoes, mixing well. Pour into lightly greased 13” X 9” X 2” baking dish.
Topping:
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
½ cup all-purpose flour
1 cup chopped pecans
In a small sauce pan, melt butter. Remove from heat and add sugar, flour and pecans. Mix well. Sprinkle mixture over casserole. Bake at 350o for 25 minutes.

This is my first time commenting on a blog. I truly find you inspirational. It is one of my deepest wishes that I too could create something that other people love. I enjoy reading blogs to view into other people's souls to find out what makes them tick. I would highly recommend Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion magazine.

My recommendation is a quaint little restaurant in the heart of South Philadelphia named ‘Morning Glory’. The address is: 735 S 10th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147. The seating is limited but the Pecan Waffles with Peaches and Cream on the side are to die for and well worth the wait!
Best of luck on your move and even if I don't win, thanks for taking to time to have giveaways like these!! I think it's safe to say you inspire us all :)

Your bundles look fab. So here is my entry: a recipe you must try!
This recipe is my new favorite quick weeknight dinner. It's very refreshing and perfect for summer.
Lemony Tuna Salad
Serves 4, Prep Time 20 min (per the mag...I made it in like 10 min!)
(from EveryDay with Rachael Ray, April 2008)
1. In a large bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of mayo, 4 tsp lemon juice and 2 tsp grated lemon peel (I love this part because I get to use my microplane grater - love it!!!). Season with salt & pepper.
2. Add one 6oz. can of solid white tuna, drained, breaking it apart slightly with a fork.
3. Add 1 cup of canned white beans, rinsed.
4. Add 1/2 cucumber, cut into cubes, and 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion (I leave this part out - I'm not the biggest fan). Again, season with salt & pepper.
5. Arrange romaine lettuce on to plate. Top with tuna salad and tomatoes (either 1 cup of cherry tomatoes, halved, or your choice!)
Enjoy!
