One of my new pieces:
Violaine 8"x10"x1" Acrylic on Canvas
The background is my favorite blue maybe ever. Also, she is named after a favorite Cocteau Twins song. Also, that name is one of my favorite made-up girl/song names, along with "Stumbleine" (ala The Smashing Pumpkins).
She'll be traveling with me to Renegade, and then she'll be part of a big update when I get back (assuming no big spender snatches her up).
Also loving (in no particular order):
This new graphic novel from Fantagraphics. It's about a man who's greatest wish is to write caution labels, can you beat that? The drawings are lovely and are by a lady named Cathy Malkasian, who I believe was a director-ish person for Rugrats and The Wildthornberries. But don't let that deter you.
The new Detroit Cobras record. So good. It's kicks a little less ass than some of their older releases, which is a complaint you normally would never hear from me, but it's good in a new way that I'm really digging. Let's just put it this way, it's all that is playing in the car these days. So, it must be pretty darn good.
Other good things:
Hillary's freaking unbelievable rooms for her Junebaby and Big Boy Boxcar.
Roq La Rue's Venus show
Camille Rose Garcia's new book, which deserves a whole post of its own. And it'll get one very soon.
Laughing Cow cheese. How was I so behind the curve on that one?
I hope everyone has happy weekends!
xoxo
PS: Thanks for all of the love + understanding from Wednesday's post! I'm glad that I would be missed, but even more glad to know that you managed to understand my crazy, disorganized thoughts.

yes laughing cow cheese is very good stuff :) Who would have thought that a "light" cheese would be so yummy?

Oh my! I *know* (Okay, not very well, but still!) a girl who is a cautionary copywriter. She seemed a bit embarrassed about it but how can you not find it wonderful. It's exactly the sort of fantastical job that I'd have previously thought could only come from great imaginations, not real life.

oh that owl *swoon*

I kept meaning to comment about the Laughing Cow pic on one of your last posts. I hope I didn't because I will seem mental.
Laughing Cow cheese wrappers used to *only* read in French "La Vache qui Rit" literally the cow who laughs. I used to bring them into my high school french class for extra credit circa 1990. Just a lil' tidbit! :)
I love your owl. I wonder if he has a name.

the owl reminds me very much of a beautiful cat i used to live with. i am so taken with that haunting blue backdrop too - midnight and mysteries and dreams!
i am also rather fond of the detroit cobras:)

Violaine and her deep blue background are so beautiful. Those lucky Renegade attendees!
The baby rooms! Wow, a room all put together with little toys and things, all those quilts, just waiting for the baby--and the son's room is wonderful. Great green color, which is so hard to get right. That kind of thing is what is so wonderful and fabulous about craft blogs--to see what really creative people do with their homes.

Beautiful! I can see why you love the blue..It is "jump in and flutter through the night sky" dreamy blue...
As for the cheese.
When I was a wee girl. Of about 5. An only child at the time (sis and brother, not yet created) I used to sit at the front stoop of the "ginger-breadish house" that I lived in, unwrapping said cheese, and nibbling for hours. I remember different flavors and such. Sometimes I was impatient and squeezed cheese through little wrapper punctures... What an impatient naughty girl I was...
Funny enough. Today, I am not a cheese eater. Not really at all, maybe here and there... If my French roots are really peeking out, and I crave using the word Fromage...

omg! laughing cow cheese. when i was little i loved the teeny little cubes. i loved the little red strip that you pull to open the metal wrapping. i would squish the little block and toss it into my mouth. and, um...i still do.

When I was little my grandparents would always have Laughing Cow cheese at their house. I hadn't had it in year until I went to Gabon and saw some and had to eat it.

Oh a beautiful perfect post with deep blue and the Cocteau Twins. Now all I hear is them when I see your work :)
Alison · June 13, 2007 at 07:48 AM
OMG Cocteau Twins...there is a blast from my pre-child past. I need to get a few new DVDs. I always found their music so inspiring.
