Hello, hello!
Here I am on a bleary, grey, too-warm-for-me Tuesday...glued to the computer, happily ordering supplies and postcards and things for the shop. I just drew up a little front-of-parcel stamp last night, and it should come in a few weeks:
Cute, no? I had been wanting to have a stamp made for the front of my official Black Apple correspondence that would be purely decorative (as in, NOT the ugly "Do Not Bend" stamp or my return address stamp). Actually, I suppose I employ quite a little arsenal of stamps in my mailing-life.
Thank you so much for all of the sweet words about Sam the Cassette Doll. I'm on a bit of a roll with these little ones... I finished stitching up this girl last night:
She's in the shop, here. I think she might be my favorite one yet...
It really is a shame that they are so time-consuming & therefore must be so pricey. I feel like that terrible art vs. craft double-standard is making people afraid of these dolls. You know the one, in which nobody would bat an eyelash to pay $100 for a painting, but a doll that costs that much? It's an entirely different story. I find this whole double-thinking very hilarious, as someone who is basically just a stuff maker, and the stuff I make are paintings, drawings, dolls, bags, and endless etceteras.
I know you guys must've noticed this as well...thoughts?
Also, last night, whilst watching Mrs. Parker & the Vicious Circle which is rather freshly on DVD, I stitched these sweet little pinwheel brooches:
If you need a little something to sass up the lapel of your fall jacket, they are to be found here.
Back to ordering and sourcing and packing & wishing that there was enough energy and time to be creating things 24 hours a day. Happy Tuesday, jelly beans!

Oh her sweater and the little leafies on her hat. Too cute. I can't believe how quickly you get one of these made, or so it seems. I know what you mean about the pricing, I try to avoid thinking that way (painted/drawn = art, sewn/stuffed = craft) but I know many who do.

Ohh dont worry about pricing, people are cashed up and you need to be paid for your efforts. The one handmade doll I have lives on my lounge wall hanging like art - because she is!

i love those pins.
you should charge a million more dollars for all your stuff.
also, you have mail from elizabeth in the mail. well. you will tomorrow. don't let Jim C. keep it from you.

Another beautiful doll. How do you make them so quickly - one night? They look fiddly and frustrating to make to me - but I'm the most incompetent sewer ever. I agree with everyone else - they are priced very reasonably considering the effort.

those are indeed, adorable.
not to mention your new "flag" at the top.
oh, and hedgehog mail is always the best form of mail.

of course, you can always make your own stamps...just buy a slab of rubber at a craft store, draw your design in pencil on a pice of plain paper, transfer it to the rubber by putting the drawn-on side face down to the rubber and push, push, push, and carve away with some inexpensive stamp-making tools also from the craft store. I make lots of stamps this way. with the right tools your designs can be very intricate.

hi emily! i'm so happy to have stumbled upon your little world here - i think i love it already. i haven't seen mrs. parker & the vicious circle yet ~ how was it?
those little pins are very sweet... and i agree, the art + craft double standard is indeed frustrating... ugh. but your stuff is wonderful. ♥, jerusha

Oh her sweater makes me squeal!
I think you are asking a VERY reasonable price for such a masterpiece. Some people have told me that since my things are handmade they should be CHEAPER! Hah, try telling me that at 1am while furiously sewing and ironing after a day with my sweet baby Gabe!
p.s. I posted a little someth'in about hedgies today.
