Hello all! Sorry again for kinda dropping off the face of the earth for a wee bit with no warning & no updates & no messages in bottles.
It was a much-needed break, and I was so thankful to: A.) Have my job at the Black Apple, which allows me to be a top-notch hostess & not neglect my lovely guest for a second AND B.)Take a nice little vacation from the Black Apple, where I spend such unbelievable amounts of time! It's a funny thing to simultaneously be grateful for & relieved to be away from the same part of your life. And, now I'm all ready to spend the week endlessly making things & taking endless trips to the P.O. & generally playing a bit of catch-up.
I stitched/painted up this little lady last night whilst watching the final few episodes of Carnivale, Season 2...it felt like the end of an era to me. So sad. I get so pathetically attached to that small tiny handful of shows that I love (Freaks & Geeks, for example) that it is a bit traumatizing when there are no more episodes left!
She is here, in the shop as of a few hours ago.
I bought some wonderful new art books over the weekend (I think I mentioned that before) and I am still so giddy about them. One of them is Taschen's new, oversized hardbound edition of Winsor Mckay's Little Nemo, 1905-1914. I remember Amy having her Little Nemo freak-out a bit ago... and until this new, beautiful edition came out every volume of it that I saw on Amazon, etc., was like $300 or something. So, anyway, its all overwhelmingly beautiful and innovative (and, unfortunately, rife with some racist elements, just so you know), but here are a few that leapt out of the book and wanted to be scanned:
So. There we have it...I want to take some scans from the other books I've recently aquired, to share with my lovely blog-peeps, so that'll happen this week. Now, painting. And emailing. And sewing. And back to solitary days.

Love the headphones and glasses especially. I heard Carnivale was so expensive to make, but wow, what a show.

Oh I love your new little lady, what is she listening too?

Hello, this is my first time commenting since I stumbled upon your site recently. I am so in love with this doll, she's perfect! You are so talented, I think everything you create is wonderful. ^_^
I can't wait to see more and hopefully someday order something.

She is adorable. I can just picture her on the subway, lost in her own little musical world. Her glasses are so bookish! Surely she is a reference librarian of some sort?

Emilyyyyyy one day WE'LL be houseguests. We'll go to the post office with you though. Maybe stand in line behind you with a number of your packages and pretend like, Hey, miss, you seem to have been soooo ogood at sending out those packages of yours.... ahem, would you please help us with ouuuurs?
(said in "very-bad-actor" voice)

I've been lurking over arts and crafting blogs for months but somehow just ran across yours tonight. I'm in love! What a breath of fresh air! I ran off to Etsy and bought two of your prints and know just where they will go when they arrive. Your stuff is amazing!

I forgot to mention that I always picture you crafting with a tool-holding apron.
And that apron looks like the one here:

Hey, I like this doll - it's the best one you've done so far and her face looks different/better than the others - a little bit less 'creepy' - your word not mine ;)

Wow, ok...I just have have to say that I am a huge fan of forever 21 and have that sleevless apple print tank!! You are so resourceful and creative!! The leggings are definitely my fav part of this highly detailed doll!

I love her so much! Oh, where did my paypal funds go?? These dolls are so amazing, the glasses...the headphones...ah!
Aren't you so sad to see Carnivale end?? I kept reminding myself that it was only a TV show, but I looked forward to sitting down with it every night, such an amazing tale. We're on to Lost now, which is good in its own way, but no Carnivale. xo
blair · September 19, 2006 at 09:47 AM
I think this is the best doll yet! I love the glasses but then again I'm four-eyes myself so I love stuff like that. :) I also loved Carnivale and was sad to see it end. So many questions unanswered!!!
Marilyn · September 19, 2006 at 09:48 AM
YES! I'm obsessed with Little Nemo, so excited about this! The doll is beautiful, best one yet :)
geek+nerd · September 19, 2006 at 10:58 AM
Oh, Emily... I'm having fun pretending this doll is me. And that I'm just as cool! Andy & I haven't watched the second season of Carnivale yet, but we worship Freaks & Geeks. Every amazing show seems to get cancelled (Twin Peaks, Arrested Development). Maybe it's better not to see them become tiresome in their old age...
sara k. · September 19, 2006 at 12:47 PM
oh my - and those headphones!!!
jennifer · September 19, 2006 at 02:42 PM
I know exactly what you mean about shows ending. I just finished watching freaks and Geeks and was so so sad. It was such a magic show.
