NaraMania

Well, the light is far too dingy today to photograph anything...and lucky you, because I had something I wanted to scan n' share anyway!

This (new?) book on Yoshitomo Nara, one of the artists that I am geekily in love with (and I know that lots of you are, too! That means you, Ms. Lisa). The only saddish thing about the book, for us not lucky enough to be fluent in Japanese (oh, if only) is that it is entirely in Japanese. But do we let that stand in the way of endlessly devouring Japanese Craft books? Hell, no! So, I don't let it stand in the way of me and Nara...

Such a lovely title...and with one of my favorites on the internal cover! (It comes in a cute slipcase)

Naraall

I have several other monographs of his, but this book is a real gem because it contains all different sorts of papers that it is printed on (wonderful!) and because it has all sorts of things...maps, diagrams, lots of photos, and of course the beautiful drawings and paintings.
I thought you guys might be interested in the image close to the bottom of all the softies...I read in another of his books that he asked for fans to create softies of his little characters and creatures, and he recieved hundreds, which he used in his "I don't mind if you forget me" installation (I believe, I could totally be wrong). They are incredible! I should get more images of those to show you, because I'm sure that they knocked even HIS socks off!

I looked around online for the book, and it appears to be out of stock everywhere (the Giant Robot shop, etc.). I bought mine locally, but if you run across one, and you are a NaraManiac, it is highly recommended!
Happy (rainy) Tuesday, dollfaces!

Oooh ooh I love Nara! Glad to see another nara fan :)

If you haven't found it already, here is Nara's official website:
http://www.happyhour.jp/i_index.html

There's lots of text that won't mean much to you if you don't understand Japanese, but if you go to "peep" and go in any one of the rooms you'll see photographs of Nara's works in progress. Also there are lots of links to books/magazines of his work.

I too wish I were fluent in Japanese! I'm slowly learning :)
