The Doily Scarf:
This project was super-easy, and I am completely in love with it. I just sewed a bunch (10-15) of small-ish doilies together...zip, zip, zip. It makes for such a romantic, lightweight scarf...and it's so nice to use these doilies that I love as objects, but would otherwise have no real use for.
I hope your week is going along nicely!

Have you ever realized that when you buy readymade suits you get a choice of only a few colors & styles, also finding the perfect fit are quite difficult? Wouldn’t it be better to choose from over 2000 different British & Italian fabrics and get a tailor made suit at a similar price that you pay for readymade suits?
We are a company based in Hong Kong and have been providing custom made suits & shirts since 1997. With representatives in major cities around the globe we can arrange to show you the fabric samples and take your measurements, or you can also place your orders online with the help of our measuring guide. There are over 2000 fabrics to choose from along with all the latest styles.
All our suits and shirts are produced by highly skilled Shanghainese tailors in Hong Kong and delivered in about 4 weeks, express delivery can be made in 2 weeks at a minor extra cost. In case you are not able to find what you are looking for then please let us know your requirement may it be in words or by a photograph and we could arrange it for you.
We also have an outlet at the Hotel Intercontinental Budapest where you are most welcome to visit us. Though we are not located in streets like Savile Row (London), we have still been able to offer made to measure suits to many VIP’s from around the world.

That is such a brilliant idea. So lovely! Where do you find the best vintage doilies, online or through thrift stores & flea markets?
ann · February 07, 2008 at 12:36 PM
Such a pretty scarf! It'd be perfect for spring / fall
Angie · February 07, 2008 at 01:30 PM
THATS IT. Next time I go thrifting/junking, I'm looking for lots of doilies!! You've inspired me so much with your little projects, Miss Emily!! :) BRAVO!!

Eeee! That looks so cool. I use bits of old lace similar to that in my hair. I think you should have your own show, "how to make old things look good", especially in this day and age where re-newing and recycling is the way to go!

my great grandmother knitted and sewed all the time. she started making these crocheted snowflake ornaments with a loop to hang them on the tree and she soaked them in a glue or glaze that hardened them so they wouldn't unravel and last for a long time. they are very beautiful and i'd love to send you a couple! I have never had a christmas tree without them. Trees seem to look naked without them now. Maybe they would inspire you to do something very cool!

When I was a little girl we had a million of these around my grandmother's house in a million different colors! Where have you found yours? I can't seem to find really great patterned pieces . I just bought a vintage couch for my studio and I want to really kitsch it out.
Katie · February 08, 2008 at 04:26 PM
Love it. I have tons of doilies, quilt squares and hankies that my grandmother handmade, and I don't know what to do with them. I don't sew and am not crafty at all. You could probably work wonders with them!
On another note, I'm about to paint my living room, and the color on your walls is EXACTLY what I want. Do you know what the color is?

I was eying that dress too, a bit pricey for my thrift budget, but lovely lovely none the same.
Looks great dear. :)

Absolutely genius! I have a gigantic set of vintage flax linen doilies/dresser scarves with all black stitching and flowers that i no longer use... pulling them out now. And loving the layering going on in this outfit, too. I was just looking at cute Erin Fetherston dresses on clearance at Target.com (9.99!) but they seemed so hopelessly short. Now I have some fun ideas. Thanks for the inspiration this morning. :)

I had been thinking of making a scarf out of my plethora of lacey tidbits when I came about your post! You are completely inspiring I love it. I whipped my scarf up before I went to brunch (you are right about it being a quick project) And I completely love it. Thank you for being the perfect creative catalyst!
