Pretty Ebay Dresses

January 30, 2008 · Vintage

I was browsing around Ebay for some vintage, velvet frocks a few nights ago, and I came upon two really perfect specimens:

(Photos: Ebay Seller's own)

This dress is SO perfect. The color is my favorite green...and the lace color and cuffs?
Its fatal flaw (for me) is that, of course, being a vintage dress that I want, it is super-small. I loved it so dearly, though that I had to really restrain myself from buying this dress and then scheming up a way to add a 10 inch fabric panel to the back. The bidding is long past, but here is the listing.

And then there's this one:

Redvelv

Redvelv2
(Again, Photos: Ebay Seller's Own)

Again, it's teeny-tiny. But just so darn perfect!
The color (again!)
The collar! The little bow!
Listing here.

I'm stashing images of both of these in my inspiration folder, for certain. Not inspiration to be tiny, of course...inspiration for designing and painting.  :)

Whoa! Those dresses are like magic garments for large dolls...the style of the green one is somehow contemporary but also really timeless. Super finds.

Those are heaven!! I just ordered 2 prints from you. I love everything you make and link to!

YUMMY!!! Definitely worth adding to the inspiration for later folder! ;) I often run into the same problem with vintage; what I want is far too teeny! rofl.

this is not the same thing exactly, but do you know http://madewithlovebyhannah.com? hannah is really sweet and talented - i recently bought 2 of her "winter woods" skirts, one in dark green and one in dark grey velveteen. she hand screens the prints herself, plus they come with cute animal brooches. i have other skirts from her - she's the best!

oh oh.. the red one.... oh....

dearlenny · January 30, 2008 at 06:35 PM

The last dress would look fabulous with kid gloves.

You could just commission someone to do a vintage design for you based off one of them. It's not the same but for the red one I'd do it in a heartbeat

Starfelt · January 31, 2008 at 06:48 AM

that red dress is amazing. truly.

That is really a great green. I love to wear it as it makes my brown eyes look a bit more hazelly.

phoo on that, hey? in happier news, did you see that saltwater has a 70% off sale? still a little too cher for my budget, but perhaps you're a bit better off in that respect than myself!

jen · January 31, 2008 at 12:54 PM

Oooh I love the red one!

I am so pleased that you are back, and delivering delicious inspiration. I adore both velvet dresses. The red one has a divine tiny waist that I aspire to, but would only achieve with the help of a genuine vintage corset made of industrial strength fabric. I rather fancy one of those actually. I also love the green dress.

i, too have a dress up on ebay that is vintage. i had it up for 250 cause i didnt want to sell it then i dropped it to 125. its on my etsy too. hmf i dont wanna sell it but i need money lol

i have that problem with vintage hats and shoes, too. Why did folks back then have to have such great design with such small bodies? It's as though they were deliberately trying to spite posterity. I like the idea of commissioning one to be made, though.

We're on the same page when it comes to colors. I just bought fabric in that green for my dolls and in your previous post I used the gold/orange/blue colors as well. Love the cuts on all of these dresses.

DuBuhDuDesigns · February 03, 2008 at 02:52 AM

oh, these are delightful! After I saw this, I totally spent an evening poking through ebay - I haven't done that in a while. I have to thank you for the nudge to go peruse: while I didn't find any vintage, I did snap up a cotton and silk dress by Edun for a song! I can't wait for it to come!

There are some vintage looking dresses on Chicstar.com that you might like.

I have fallen so in love with these dresses. I used to be smaller, but never small. Sometimes it pains me to think that even if I lost weight, I'd still have a hard time finding dresses like this that don't need altering.

Laura · February 06, 2008 at 12:04 AM

simply stunning. The red dress could not possibly be any more perfect.

Sage and Daisy · February 07, 2008 at 01:52 AM

here's one on etsy that doesn't have the teeny tiny waist but still has the lace lovlies...

Oh...I love that green one...the photograph is fantastic too!

Those dresses are so gorgeous. I adore the color on the red dress. I so feel ya with the teeny weeny sizes. I have found some really amazing things at thrift stores that are so small. Of which I am not. :)
