Seafaring

May 23, 2008 · Artsy (Mine)

I just finished up work on this new piece for the group show Oceanic at Suite 100 gallery in Seattle:

Hey1

Hey2
Hey, Little Sailor    10.5"x10.5"x1"     Acrylic on wood panel

If you're feeling a little deja-vu-ish, it's similar to my painting Wonders Never Cease, except it's all about the love for sea monsters, rather than narwhals this time.

Happy long weekend, everone!
xoxo

Beeeeautiful! And...is it at all odd that this little character is inspiring me to get that same hair-cut? Hmmmm...

Wow--I thought I was in love with your black hair--but this pink is just too cool!

Emily, This beautiful little gals face looks like my mother as a child! Same haircut too, only she was a toe-head just like her own 3 girls. I can't wait for the print! Thanks for your gorgeous work and the whole 9 yards......Melanie

I love her expression & hair. The colours you've used are amazing!

Sophie · May 24, 2008 at 12:03 PM

love the sea monster, such a cute little face. Can you use the word cute when talking about monsters? And the yellow green sea is very pretty and atmospheric.

I've never commented on a blog before, but I've been reading yours faithfully for some time now and I couldn't keep quiet any longer! I love your art and the kitschy way you do everything! I'm also a huge fan of your fashion blog, being a fellow knee-socks-with-everything enthusiast myself! This painting is gorgeous! Keep up the wonderful, unique work!! <3

Oooh, how wonderful that I can hop on over and see it for myself! My hubby and I are going to try and check out the show...it looks like there are some other really beautiful paintings to see as well!

adrienneleanne · May 24, 2008 at 01:42 AM

Love the sea monster! I hope it makes a debut in your doll series like the ghost. :D

stitchandtell · May 24, 2008 at 01:28 AM

This reminds me of when I was over the Loch Ness in Scotland! Such mystery behind the Loch Ness Monster and such mystery behind this painting... lovely and mysterious as always! I really think the Loch Ness still lives deep, deep under... :)

Rubyellen · May 24, 2008 at 01:25 AM

Okay, so I love all your paintings... but I lurve this one!

Mandi · May 23, 2008 at 10:51 PM

Ooo one more recommendation if you haven't heard enough. "My hair had a party last night" by Trout fishing in America . Funny kids song.

Love this painting. It's gorgeous, as always.

Emily, this picture reminds me of The Monsters of Templeton, by Lauren Groff. Perfect summer reading, if you haven't enjoyed it already. (And it has a great cover!)

Bee · May 23, 2008 at 08:23 PM

She's wonderful! But how can one look so bored with the Lockness Monster lurking beneath? I would think she lives the most exciting of lives sailing around The Seven Seas in her little dinghy.

so lovely, as always :)

Long weekends are only good if you have something worth doing to do.

I do enjoy the use of greenish yellow in your painting though.
