While I was putting away all of our trip-stuff, I thought I'd snap a photo of my crafty scores and the books I mentioned in my last post!
Yarn, fabric and Japanese craft books:
Vintage fairytale books (I collect editions of the Alice stories, and I found 3 versions I didn't have...including the one illustrated by Arthur Rackham, who is a favorite illustrator of mine):
I also found the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen collections with Rackham illustrations.
So happy.
Here are some selections from flipping through each book briefly to show to you guys (the new Alice editions are on the top row). You can click to make them larger!
Happy Weekend, my dears!

I also collect Alice books. I have so many additions that it is hard to keep track, but I think I may own a couple of those ones you just got. And several of mine came from Powell's too! It really is a lovely place.

You like Fairy Tales! You just keep getting better! I collect then as well. For some reason they add more than just some thing to life. Well I hope the weekend goes well for you and your wonderful elf!

I'm so envious I could just die...I may not even be able to read your blog anymore! :) I love Arthur Rackham and I always want people to know that his work went far beyond Peter Pan...The Winter 2008 issue of Faerie Magazine has a great profile of him...
Congrats on the finds!

I adore vintage storybooks as well! Last year my shop window was a dedication to Alice in Wonderland. It was the best window ever. Congrats on fabulous finds.

do you have a copy of "victorian color picture books?" i cannot find a link for you that has a photo of the cover.
it's a beautiful compilation of stories, & their victorian-era illustrations.
i was lucky to find mine at a thrift shop! what a treasure.
ps... it's edited by jonathan cott, with commentary by maurice sendak (in case you are going to google it.)

Are you on ravelry at all? I thought you might be (or at least on the waiting list) since you are a knitter. There are groups relating to Alice (http://www.ravelry.com/groups/wonderland) and to Fairy Tales (http://www.ravelry.com/groups/folkore-and-fairy-tales) that would probably interest you.

I am taking a fairy tales seminar this quarter, so this post is very interesting to me.
I also just hosted an Alice in Wonderland bridal shower, which is another reason why this post interests me.
Keep it up. :)

i just read on the "everyday is a holiday" blog that you received some criticism after your appearance on martha stewart. i saw the show and thought you were great! i wasn't familiar with your work before, but it's very cottagy-cool. and, it's original.

Fun! I have an Alice that I love. It's a book that's small and fat, but unabridged (very important) and the bright colorful illustrations were done by June Goulding. It was just a cheapy book at Barnes & Noble.. but I have just loved it. I didn't think my daughter would read it.. but she loved the pictures and read it through quickly. It was fun to introduce her to Alice!

Oooh I have an original copy of "A Child's Garden of Verses"! The illustrations are amazing. When I have my first child I want to paint the playroom with some of the illusrations. :)
Lovely selection of yarn, btw!

Wonderful books!

I love Arthur Rackham too. I inheritied (from my grandmother) the second edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, illustrated by Rackham. It was given to her for Christmas in 1916. I love it and treasure it. The colours you use in your paintings remind me of the plates from my book - lovely. Saw your Martha Stewart segment last week, you were brilliant and fun. My daughter and I made one of your dolls this weekend - thanks for the template - much quicker than doll patterns I've made! I'll link you when I post it!
