Circle Time 11"x12"x1" Acrylic on found vintage panel
This is another new painting, which I painted onto a vintage pressboard panel with that wonderful decorative Trompe-l'oeil "frame" around the edge.
I am wrapping up a nice, quiet weekend (which is usually how weekends are around these parts). I baked some bread, did a little painting, went to a Japanese bookstore + market with my friend Mandy, and basically behaved like hobbits with Josiah. We have kind of a hobbitt-y life (read: we are huge homebodies) but I really love it. I sometimes get the feeling that I'll have to wake up from this life, and go back to some sort of mysterious, imagined, dreadful life where I trudge to work at a bucket factory every day. Also in this other, bad, life I have no kitten, no partner-in-crime, no sewing, no painting, no baking, etc.
You get the picture.
The weird fear just makes me so grateful...I hope I don't ever have to wake up from my life.

This IS your life and it's a wonderful one at that. It's not a dream it's REAL LIFE the way living should be. An inspiration for others. Oh, the reason I'm writing is to say I just love that new painting called Circle Time. (Emily we thank-u)

I think true happiness is when you know that you are happy at the same time that it is happening.

I love this--it's so beautiful with the animals in their circle. I doubt you'll ever have to do anything else Emily--your work is so very beautiful. And belated congrats on the NY Times magazine shout-out.

Aww - I love this painting so much!! So very cute! BTW - last I heard, they were replacing workers at the bucket factory with robots...so guess you'll just need to keep living your awesome hobbity life! :)

Can I live your dream? I sort of am but not to the full extent yet.

lol, I know the feeling! It makes me so sad when somebody tells me how he hates his job and would like to pursuit his craft/art carreer, and after telling him «why don't you do it?» he gives me hundreds of excuses. Being an artist and successfull IS hard to achieve, but so worth it.

Awww I like this painting style of yours too. The fox and the owl are my favorites. This one would look great next to your tree bed painting :)

This is so sweet. Love the colours and it would be perfect for a children's book :)

I adore this painting! Do you think you'll be making prints of it? Crossing my fingers, and toes, if it helps! ;)

I love all your paintings but I think this may be my favorite so far. Will you be offering this in a print version? Clarice

This painting is so amazing. :The animals are as fantastic as the red hooded girl. I would love to know what you imagine she is reading to them . Emily you are a princess in a fairy tale that will go on forever and we are so lucky to share in your adventures.

Emily,
Miette & I are very lucky to live in this corner of the Shire with you.
I love all of the animals in this painting, especially the fox, but he's kind of orange like the neighborhood cat Miette hates, so I'm kind of alone on that one.

Bonjour Emily! Your red-dressed little reader girl among forest animal is delicious, so delicate and wonderful. I TOTALLY understand what you are saying about the hobbit life and imagining a different tougher life. I do that all the time...Like tonite, we went outside my husband, 11 year old and myself and stood still undere the almost full-moon in knee-high snow and that moment was perfect, silent in the countryside. Then we thought how different this tranquility would be if peace was not present and war was hovering...When some moments get boring once in a while, I do like you, and imagine how they could be 100 times worst....What a bright philosoph you are. And a great painter too...
