I don't want to cut-off the discourse that's going on from yesterday's post...there are so many thoughtful, affirming things being said about an important issue!
But I do want to show you some cute things I made. After a monster-trip to the Post Office yesterday, and about 24 hours consumed with nothing but preparing for said trip, I felt like I deserved to come home and make a few Christmas crafts.
I had this idea swimming around in my brain for Suessian, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"-ish felt trees to sit on tabletops/my imaginary credenza. Yesterday, I stole a few hours to try my plan out...and they turned out so quirky and...well..just like I imagined (which doesn't always happen with abstract plans, as I'm sure you know).
The base/core of each tree is just one of those floral-foam cones you can grab at most craft stores, wrapped with many, many strips of felt. I just used cheapy, 20 cent, acrylic felt, but you could certainly get fancy and use wool felt (I mainly went for cheapy since I didn't know if it was going to work). I really love them, and think they would look lovely in white, teal, or...even green! Or maybe tipped with some glitter, who knows?!
Here's a slightly more close-up photo of how the strips are constructed:
And what would a crafting Christmas-tabletop-tree party BE without stitching up a few of the ubiquitous Stephanie trees? I used some of my favorite polka dot cottons, and weighted their little bottoms with rice.

Awesome trees. I think you're right about the glitter...it would look lovely. I am not feeling anything even remotely Christmas-like over here. Bleh. It's 80 degrees outside and no tree at my house yet.

love it and reminds me of something out of the Dr. Seuss book - so creative and fantastic

I watched the classic "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" on TV last night with my two little guys... I couldn't help but notice the trees and kept thinking how cute they were. Kind of similar to what you've done here only theirs had scalloped edges and the layers flared more from each other (if that makes sense). I think theirs were made from paper. Anyway, I loved them and think it's awesome that you've done the same kind of thing here!

I love these pink trees. They are so much fun. What I super duper love, though, is your Christmas tree. It looks so warm and cheerful - the perfect little Christmas tree!

Also I came home from a rather annoying day at work to find my parcel of labels and stickers had arrived from your Etsy shop! It made my day, so Thank you.

I LOVE these!! They are so quirky and cute... and so "Black Apple-ish"! :) I may have to try that idea myself, if you don't mind! In fact, I think I'll link to this post too in my weekly roundup of inspiring websites. Just far too sweet... hehe.

SO cute!! I love the quirky, raggedy cuts, giving the endearing less than perfect vibe.
Oh, yeah, and WTF on having all those presents wrapped and done already?? What is up with THAT?? lol

You are just so talented. I never thought of a good idea for those foam cones, but this has got to be the best thing I can think of for them... would love to see what a glittery one looks like.
And oy, the post office. Scary place this time of year.

Those tree's are adorable. And the big x-mas tree is so pretty. You need to get all curled up on the sofa under a blanket and have some hot chocolate! *sigh* That sounds so nice.
