The Black Apple › Inside A Black Apple

Happy October-ing

October 28, 2007 · About Me (Mostly)

Hello, sweet applets!
Some_girls_1678_2

I am so enjoying the end of October.
We've throwing a Halloween party on Wednesday, so in addition to scrambling like a busy bunny on the official Black Apple end of things, I'm excited about the big, fun holiday that's almost upon us.

We went with a few good friends to the pumpkin farm yesterday. It looked a little like a depression-era dust bowl pumpkin farm, since we're in the midst of a bit of a drought, but it was still really fun. We picked out a variety of pumpkins, and then headed back to Andy + Sara's to carve them up. Then, of course, we had to "test" their jack-o-lanternability:

So cute!!! All of the girls made the bigger "traditional" pumpkin faces, and the boys ended up making crazy-cool faces on the smaller ones. I don't know why it happened that way, but I'm pretty jealous of the little cute quirky ones.

Here is mine + Josiah's:

I love how Nightmare Before Christmas Josiah's looks...kind of like Jack with the Mayor's top hat.

I hope everyone's weekends were lovely.
Now I need to go get some food in my tummy + do some big-time work!

That little pumpkin is absolutely perfect in its wonkiness!

How adorable and funky! I love the smaller pumpkins. And how did you get your photos to have rounded edge? Is there a tool in photoshop I don't know how to use yet?

Thanks!

I simply love the top photograph; those stripy tights and shoes are pretty sharp! ;) And those pumpkins are adorable--I haven't carved a pumpkin since I was 12!!

I am so jealous that you're doing something fun for the holiday... I can't think of anything to do, other than moon about in a costume, taking pictures. lol.

Have a lovely Sunday evening, Miss Emily!

You mentioned a bit of a drought. I could send you the rain we had in Virginia the past three days but it's moved on somewhere else.

I'm actually looking forward to Halloween this year which is new for me. Still haven't brought a pumpkin to carve though.

Those pumpkins are charming and not a little bit nerve-wracking, like one of those people who smiles and you just know they're up to no good.

I love the little pumpkin! It is very much like Nightmare Before Christmas! I'm hoping to carve my own little pumpkin(s) this week :)

Halloween Parties are so fun! I wish I had one to go to. Next year I'll host one. I have been studying magazines for party ideas for years:) I hope you post some of your pictures!

Your blog is always oh-so-inspiring! And, those pumpkins are simply adorable. Thanks for sharing!

I've been reading your blog for months and months now and simply adore the way you write and capture your inspiring lifestyle on a mere computer screen. It's my daily distraction from work and I love it! :D

I'm from Western Australia and we don't really celebrate Halloween at all. Some kids try to trick-or-treat but everyone is just scared they'll vandalise your property or something. It's pretty sad. So it was awesome to see pictures of your pumpkin laterns this entry! I'm totally in love with America and can't wait to get back there soon. I think I'll plan it for this time next year, I've never carved a pumpkin before, it looks fun!

Have a wonderful week and please don't ever stop blogging. I'm with Zoe... when my boyfriend and I move into our new house soon I'll be visiting your shop for something funky, even Adam loves your little girls and cute hedgehogs.

Cheers! x

Just a quick note to say that i spotted your work on Etsy, and i love your style :)

tinyblob · October 30, 2007 at 07:50 AM

Hey. I have been reading your journal for a while now and I love your work. As soon as I get some extra money, I am buying some of your stuff...alot of it, probably :) I am an artist myself and I'm thinking about opening an Etsy shop. Where do you usually go to make quality prints, buttons, etc.? I would rather sell prints of everything than originals, but I don't know where to go to get the best deal and quality. Haha...I have so many questions. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

Danielle · October 30, 2007 at 01:04 PM

off topic, but incase you weren't aware
your print with the really long scarf worn
by two people, there's a picture of it on emoquiz.com. I was bored and just mucking around, and happen to find it in the question section by accident.
