The Black Apple › Inside A Black Apple

Already with Visions of Sugar Plums (and tiny mittens)

October 19, 2007 · Artsy (Mine)

In every business world, even the wee indie one, you have to start worrying about holidays (should you want to make holiday-centric items) so far in advance! I know that the end of October really isn't that far before Christmas-time, but all I want to think about is Halloween right now!

Luckily, I struck on a sketch for this year's Black Apple Christmas card a few weeks ago..and I knew it was the one. Look how sweet!

And we're continuing the girl/hedgie gift-giving theme we established with last year's cards.

Here is (a really close approximation of) the finished cards, which were just sent off to printers:

Christmas2
I couldn't be more pleased! And, the original was just popped into shop, so if you'd like to own it for keeps, hop over and take a look. (Update: It was gone in a flash!)
Last night, when I was varnishing it, Josiah said "You won't rest until pink is considered an official Christmas color, will you?" And I guess I am on a bit  of a campaign.

I decided to go with the beautiful, big, cherry-red Paper Source envelopes for them again (I thought about light blue, but red just seems the way to go for Christmas).

Happy Friday, loves!

As far as I am concerned, pink IS a Christmas color. What do you get when you lick and lick a candy cane and the red and white mix, hmmmmm?

Melissa Crowe · October 19, 2007 at 05:20 PM

Ahh I missed the original! Oh well..the cards are going to be adorable.

Ledh · October 19, 2007 at 05:49 PM

So sweet!

I always use pink & chartreuse as my Christmas-y colors, rather than the traditional red & green. (Plus it is my absolute favorite color combo anyways!)

Suzy · October 19, 2007 at 06:25 PM

Adorable! And I totally agree on pink as a xmas colour :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you

Ever since I started to read 'Inside a Black Apple' I have an urge to write something in English (my native tongue is Estonian and I had neglected need to write poems/stories. But now I get so much inspiration from here - just by looking at your pictures and reading about your thoughts and things you like and dislike... You have created a tiny and a bit different world and it's somehow widening my world and my imagination. As I said: thank you.

TurnThePage · October 20, 2007 at 09:47 AM

Oh! Firstly, I think pink for the holidays is a lovely thought... I personally would not mind if you started an official campaign. ;) hehe.

Those cards are adorable!! How do you come up with such sweet ideas?! I can't wait until these cards are available! :)

Keep up your lovely artwork; it never fails to brighten my little computer screen. :)

Mademoiselle G · October 20, 2007 at 01:06 PM

cute cute cute

and why SHOULDN'T pink be a Christmas colour? Rosy frosted cheeks (and noses), red-and-white sweets, the soft warm colour of firelight on faces?

it all sounds VERY pink to me. =)

sarah · October 20, 2007 at 01:38 PM

Since it looks so much like my daughter (she's 20) I may have to buy them if I can!

morganna713 · October 20, 2007 at 06:52 PM

lou · October 20, 2007 at 08:01 PM
