(Including new original paintings, a fresh batch of Cameo Pins, dolls, jewelry boxes, a new postcard pack, etc!)
I had a nice stew-making, cake-baking, painting and chatting and magazine-reading weekend. So, really, an almost perfect weekend. I just wish that the fall weather that stirred hope in my heart would return...it's back to the 90's and I've just decided to live in denial about that.
Two new little folks finished yesterday:

If I was Paul Bunyan 9"x11"x1" Acrylic on wood panel
Famous Blue Waistcoat 8"x10"X2" Acrylic on canvas
They are both (as you might've already guessed) allusions to songs: Magnetic Fields' "Grand Canyon" (one of my favorite, favorite M.F. songs) and the incredibly sad and incredibly good classic, "Famous Blue Raincoat", by Mr. Leonard Cohen. Both are terribly romantic in different ways, and both had been sticking in my head as seeds for paintings.
Miette says "Mmmrreow" (thank you very kindly) for your nice well-wishing. He's doing very well, and is sweeter than ever. Josiah said yesterday that he's my "familiar" the past few days (he sat by my side the whole of yesterday while I painted, and he's sleeping a few feet behind me, curled up in an old dress he's claimed as his own, as I type this).
I feel very lucky to have such a wonderful little cat.
I'm off to be a good black apple employee for the rest of the afternoon...shipping, etc.
Happy Monday!

I love the red head with hazel eyes...a true beauty. It's also a very sweet, little sleeping mouse. Nice work!

Happ Monday sweet girl!!!!
I will now be hearing the following all day in my head, all jumbled and pieced together... "It's four in the morning...December...Writing you now, to see if your better.. hear that your building...Living for nothing.. And Jane..." Oh, yes, L. Cohen lives in my Ipod. I squeezed all his emotions in there. "Everybody Knows" comes on every morning as I walk... Funny eh? And, Joni Mitchell, and a bunch others... Why am I babbling and veering?
Yippee for updates and happy Miette. I need to talk to you about a love book, see if you want me to send it your way (had some Josiah in it)....
I have guests. This was my two minute blog squeeze! xoxoxo, V

The first thing I thought of when I saw that axe was Lizzie Borden, but no no I'm glad its not. We had a proper fall day on Saturday here but it is heating up again as well. I saw the paper dolls in the shop too they are so adorable! The Black Apple is really branching out...pardon my pun.

It's four in the morning...the end of december...
From what are the cameo pins made? Poly? Plastic? Ceramic?

Oh, that little rodent reminds me of my dear rattie (now deceased) named Sailor. I adore rodents.
Glad to hear Miette is feeling better!

Oh! I can't wait for the shop update! :)
I love both the new paintings you did; the first one in particular though! Lovely as always. :)
Aw, that is too cute about Miette... Cats can be wonderful artist's companions! :)
Hope you're having a lovely day!

I feel like your painting style is developing and changing somehow, but I can't quite put a finger on it. They seem to be becoming more luminous, perhaps? Anyhow, the shading on your little redhead's eye (iris, lid, and the apple-cheek below) are what I would point to. It's very lovely, and it's so interesting to watch and have a sense of evolution occuring.

Miss sarah is right... something's changing, growing, evolving and it's lovely to behold. Have you heard Tori Amos cover 'Famous Blue Raincoat' on the Cohen tribute album? It's breathtakingly wistful and resigned. /sigh.

Ooh lovely new paintings, as always and lovely new banner!

I also had a moment of sadness when the weather girl said that the tempeture was "on it's way back up"....my dream of rain and clouds and fall is over (for now)....

I've been away so I caught up on what I missed. Glad to hear that your little Miette is feeling much better. And Autumn has been a tease here in Virginia also. I wish it would stop being so fickle and just be cool already.

These images are quite different to the usual, for me......they appear to hold darker secrets, to live stranger lives than most....and im rather certain Mr Leonard would be proud:)

The sweet axe girl made me think of Lizzie Borden, too, only I kind of wished it had been.
We are in the same weather-boat in Michigan - it was perfectly autumnal for about a week, and now it's into the eighties again.
And "Famous Blue Waiscoat?" My new favorite (or, at least, a strong competitor with the current title-holder, "Squirrel on a String").
Love,
Sarah

Yay! I love both of those paintings - they are adorable.
Glad to hear that your sweet kitty is recovering.
P.S. I love Leonard Cohen - in fact, I was named after one of his songs so I always seems to feel a special connection to his lyrics/poems/etc.
