The Quiet Room

The Quiet Room   11"x14"x2"   Acrylic and paper on canvas

I think I mentioned the other day that I've got some new paintings in the works. This one is what I've been working on for the last couple of days. Those of you hawk-eyed applets might notice a certain other beloved image in the background.

I hope everyone's Tuesdays are chugging right along! Hopefully I'll have more new pieces to show you in the next week.

What a gorgeous picture, and I have been dreaming about putting a couch that Anthropologie has just like that in my sewing room!

Chloe · August 14, 2007 at 05:22 PM

I LOVE it! And I have a print of the painting in the background - just bought the frame last night! How fun to see it in this painting!

Oh that's really lovely!

And I'm sooo psyched, I can actually post on your blog. Normally I'm in Thailand and for some reason I can't post comments to ANY typepad blog from there (thank god I don't have MY blog with them :) and typepad can't figure out why?

I'm currently in Malaysia on vacation which means I can post comments for two whole days! ;-)

Love your work Emily!

Michelle · August 15, 2007 at 02:50 AM

Just beautiful. I love the depth, the mood and the mystique of repeating an artwork within another. Lovely.

Dear One,

I've been following your blog for a few months now. This is my first time sending in a post.

Your paintings are delightful. But it's your wonderful writing that keeps me coming back for more. Have you thought about writing an illustrated book? This new painting is outstanding. Rich with untold stories. I look forward to seeing (and reading) more.

Sending warm thoughts your way...

P.S. Love how the pose of the girl in the paintings matches your pose in your new photo. Really great.

I'm in love with this--and praying that I'll be able to buy this when it's on Etsy... I saw that couch in anthropologie the other day and it was on sale for $499 (!) with a big sold tag next to it. I'd rather have this painting though. It is my favorite of all your work so far.

Moya · August 15, 2007 at 12:08 PM

So beautiful!

Diane Duda · August 15, 2007 at 01:21 PM

Your pieces are getting more and more elaborate in the backgrounds, I love it! It is so great to see you continuing to grow as an artist.

Marilyn · August 15, 2007 at 02:17 PM

chancy · August 15, 2007 at 04:05 PM

I hope you feel better today. Your new paintings are really really wonderful! Wow!

Sonya · August 15, 2007 at 08:52 PM

Oh my. Usually your new paintings make me squeal (inwardly if I'm at work), This one takes my breath away. I know you've got your own way of doing things (an exciting and fun way) but... I have an 'I need it' feeling and your shop updates are 4 in the morning here! Please consider doing a decent sized run or maybe some preorders..?

Meryl · August 16, 2007 at 02:47 AM

Julie · August 21, 2007 at 04:36 PM

Just discovered your work (and you) this morning through another blog. I am so in love with this one. Is is available for sale? Or will you make (large) prints? Gorgeous work. Loulou

so Pretty miss Emily!

I'm taking a break from work, and thought I'd catch up on some Emily! You've been so busy.

Maybe even busy with a z... somehow Buzy seems more urgent.
