Please, please, PLEASE tell me that Sweeney Todd is going to be as good as it looks to be from this film-still. Please. You need redemption. You need it badly. You have the HBC, Alan Rickman, and the once-reliable Mister Depp at your disposal (all you're missing is Clive, for god's sake) .
Please, Tim. I need this...you need this...WE need this.
Don't screw this up for me...
er, us.

Bwahahaha! The most perfect fan letter ever. Period.

yey... Tim Burton!! I'm such a fan and hadn't heard of this movie yet. Yes he needs to redeem himself from recent blunders in film making... but this looks like a good one. And Johnny Depp is to die for as always.
Jennalou · August 22, 2007 at 08:17 PM
Depp AND Rickman?!
Tell me. Are you TRYING to give me a heart attack?! Oooohhhhh... I can't *wait* for this one.
eggmanstudios · August 22, 2007 at 08:50 PM
Tim Burton is my soul twin. I swear his visions are so close to my own! I have been anticipating this film for quite some time and these teaser posters are DELICIOUS! I'm positively ensorcelled!
Shelby · August 22, 2007 at 09:12 PM
i forgot to add alan rickman as one of my imaginary boyfriends - but he sososo is...
meg · August 22, 2007 at 09:35 PM
Word. To. That. I will be personally offended, as I'm sure you will too, if this film is not good.
Eternity · August 22, 2007 at 10:04 PM
I am a HUGE fan of Burton (his wife's not too bad either) and Depp (before and after his "Pirate" days)! *B
Beth · August 22, 2007 at 10:48 PM
It looks very Edward Scissor Handish... Hope it's a good one!
Jessica proboh@sbcglobal.net · August 23, 2007 at 01:06 AM
I. LOVE. SWEENEY. TODD. Best musical ever, hands down. (Other than The Sound of Music). Ooooh, the shivers. Can Johnny sing?
Kristy · August 23, 2007 at 01:24 AM
hehhe you are silly :)
London Southern Belle · August 23, 2007 at 02:22 AM
Oh, it looks so promising, but it also looks like it has the potential to go oh so wrong.
I'll be hoping with you.
Amber · August 23, 2007 at 02:52 AM
Johnny Depp, even when phoning an a less than credible Pirates II performance is still Johnny...which is more than anyone else can be.
what's your fave Tim Burton movie??? Mine has to be Big Fish, I feel like I am watching a dream when I see it.
also Ewan MacGregor is damn fine.
stilettoheights · August 23, 2007 at 08:28 AM
Ahem, you missed Anthony Stewart Head aka dreamy Giles from Buffy! Between him, Rickman and Depp I really don't think this is a movie my boyfriend is going to want to see with me as I'll spend the entire time swooning....
Emily · August 23, 2007 at 08:32 AM
Seriously? Giles?! Oh, dear Lord, I don't think I can stand those three in one movie, my heart just might give out.
Kara · August 23, 2007 at 09:38 AM
Most certainly intriguing! Thanks for the heads-up on this one. I'll try not to get my hopes set too high. (I can't take another crash and burn like Marie A.) I'm a little nervous though....is it going to be a musical, or just based on a musical? hmmm...
amanda bel · August 23, 2007 at 09:47 AM
Good gracious! I'm on pins and needles for this one too.... Tim Burton's films are a central theme in my house, and I can't wait to do some Sweeney Todd decorating! I know Tim won't fail.... this has such a Sleepy Hollow type feel to it in the film stills and that movie was great! With such an awesome cast behind him, it's going to be rad! Not to mention costumes by my darling Colleen Atwood...
Yay!
brianna · August 23, 2007 at 10:11 AM
WOOHOOOOO I love his movies!!! I can't wait for the next one :D I love that he includes his wife in a lot of them ...she ROCKS!!!! I loved her in Harry Potter 5!!!
Danielle Nilsson · August 23, 2007 at 10:41 AM
fingers AND toes crossed!
Clio · August 23, 2007 at 10:59 AM
I'm literally jonesing for this movie. I search for the trailer daily. I read that there will be a 10 minute preview shown at the venice film fest later this month.
Please tell me that Anthony Stewart Head sings in the movie.
kiwi · August 23, 2007 at 11:02 AM
Alan Rickman? Yes. And Clive Owen? I have followed his career since the 1980's (remember Chancer?) and he is, I think, the only man I'd leave my husband for.
Min · August 23, 2007 at 11:29 AM
I'm gonna see it regardless...I saw Sleepy Hollow...I saw Charlie and his Factory...I saw Ed Scissors...I dig Tim and his work...Beetlejuice is still one of my faves...Planet of the Apes - lets not talk about that mess...
donner · August 23, 2007 at 11:50 AM
He also has the magnificent Anthony Stewart Head from BtVS fame, who I know can carry a tune. I am looking forward to this film! That still looks amazing.
Gwen · August 23, 2007 at 12:09 PM
Ha. you are awesome. so true......
elsie flannigan · August 23, 2007 at 12:14 PM
another one hoping so much here too. tim, we will not speak of events that made willy wonka american. please remember this time.
shimelle.~* · August 23, 2007 at 12:18 PM
oh, I KNOW, right? Such great material to work with, too! Sweeney Todd is really the only musical that I like, and that probably owes much to the VERY dark, VERY gritty production put on by a dedicated cadre of undergrads I knew in college. I will *NEVER* forget that night.
I am SO excited for this. I'm not even worried, because if Burton fails me, I still have that old memory to cling to. This show ROCKS and I can't wait for the movie.
Sondheim ROCKS!
sarah · August 23, 2007 at 12:30 PM
...Love Tim Burton movies and I'll watch this one too! At the same time, I'm wondering if he's ever going to use anyone OTHER than Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in his movies.
I don't mind Depp all that much cuz he's quirky, but I liked Carter waaay better in her roles pre-Burton.

I was SOOOO excited to learn about this movie. I have faith in Tim. I saw the show on Broadway and it was really good!

Funny, I just saw an ad for this movie right before I went onto blogland and read your post. I got excited even more when I saw the cast list!! I can't wait. Hope it'll be great!
gigegy · August 24, 2007 at 01:15 AM
I am sooo excited Emily, does this mean your becoming a musical theatre nerd like me or are you just a Tim Burton nerd(also like me!)? I have been waiting for this movie for a VERY long time. The cast alone makes this an exciting event and including Sondheim and Tim Burton, kinda make it the dream team!
Jungle Dream Pagoda · August 24, 2007 at 02:05 AM
I am itching with anticipation for this film! I'm just pleased it's actually going to be a musical.
Nichole · August 24, 2007 at 01:39 PM
You know, Planet of the Apes is the only Burton film I've never seen. Yet, I count it as the only one I don't like. Not because everyone else (even Burton maniacs like myself!) but because I am so creeped out (in a BAD way!) by those apes. They are so like those in Wizard of Oz, which BTW still give me nightmares! LOL NOT GOOD!
Shelby · August 24, 2007 at 09:32 PM
one of my favorite musicals hands down! A nearby high school did this when i was a junior in high school. one of my friends played sweeney todd. Have been in love with it ever since!! One of the reasons i loved the movie Jersey Girl! well, there was kevin smith too! love him. anyway, off topic as usual. Can't wait for this, love depp, love burton, love carter!!! sounds wonderful!
gregg · August 25, 2007 at 12:43 AM
I'm stay'in out of any kind of shop those two scary lookers are running Mister Depp or no Mister Depp... I've heard that story before... Yipes!!! (I don't think it's going to work if it's not quite a little funny.. hard to do.) Good luck Tim!
tiffany · August 26, 2007 at 09:06 AM
Oh Emily , I can't wait for this! Also you must check out this ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQVdlxql8PQ ... A musician who goes by the name of Goyte ( from my home town of Melbourne in Austra;ia), the film clip for this song is amazing and very Burtonesque ! Oh and the song is fabulous too!
