This little embroidered number (I'm SUCH an embroidery novice, so don't chuckle) is wool felt with vintage buttons mounted on an old brooch that had an unfortunate cabochon.
I made this little brooch late last night after a fun + exhausting dinner & movie (I made this summery, chicken + rice dish with a crazy-good sauce). The sauce is one of those things that can't help but be delicious because it is comprised of such tasty ingredients...white wine, chicken broth, cream, onion, garlic, lemon...mmmm.
We went to see Superbad (along with every person under the age of 20 in the Athens area, by the looks of the packed theater and obnoxious lines) which was mostly funny and good. Not Supergood...but who doesn't miss George Michael now that Arrested Development is no more? I know that I do.
I also finished up this little girl yesterday:
She's a gift for a very lovely lady and some equally cute little girls in the UK, who did a very special favor for me, and she'll be jetting off to her destination soon.
Enjoy the tail-end of the weekend!
I'm trying to figure out how to spend it...

They are both lovely--the button is adorable and I'm sure the little girl is going to be thrilled with her doll. I'm off to see Superbad next week as a break from lots of writing and too much thinking. I think I need some more stupidity in my life.

I love me some George Michael, too. Such a travesty that they cancelled AD. If you (or someone you know) owns an XBOX 360 download the clark and michael show to see him in his glory now. the sketches are completely random and sometimes uncomfortable (in the way of AD) and have plenty of AD cameos. Or try clarkandmichael.com if you don't have one. Either way, it shouldn't be missed.
my husband and I are the kind of people (freaks, geeks, whatever) who pour a glass of wine and giggle uncontrollably at this show on a Friday night.

I have the shirt that the doll is wearing! I was so excited when I saw it on sale at Forever 21... I'm wearing it for the first day of school.

I fried up some beignets to add a bit of sweetness to the end of the weekend. Throw some sugar on it.

I went to see Superbad on Saturday out of love for all things Arrested D + George Michael. I liked his character a lot.

so cute! I LOVE the use of buttons in BOTH of these projects.
okay, Emily, I HAVE to ask you - since I spent much of Friday searching for brooch frames to make an embroidered brooch myself (coincidence?) - how did you get your textile bit to stay put in there? A strong glue? Or were you able to salvage the little teeth that sometimes hold the cabochon in? I'd love a tip or two, it might help me find just that right style of brooch frame - I've been mulling this for weeks, if you can believe it.
