Hello!
I have been doing loads and loads of shipping, and generally catching my breath after the one-two-punch that was Renegade, then the shop update! Since you guys are absolutely the bee's knees and I appreciate you so much, but don't get to show it as often as I'd like to...I decided to have some wee gifts to give away this week to blog folks.
It'll go like this:
Just leave a comment, saying hi, quoting a Smiths lyric, repeating a limerick to me, whatever you'd like.
You can do this until Monday (so, up til' Sunday night @ 11:59 EST). I'll draw a number, and then whoever's comment matches that number will get the present! Please make sure that your email address is with your comment, and that its correct, because I gots to email you to get your mailing address!
Today's present is....
...a beautiful tin of black apple-illustrated coasters manufactured by My Favorite Mirror! (photo courtesy of those fine folks as well).
I'll be doing a few more little "present days" throughout the week!
Happy Weekend, sweet peas!

Comments (254)
i'm going to declare myself ineligible, but i want coasters. will they be on sale in your shop or do we order them through my favorite mirror?

I dreamt about you last night
And I fell out of bed twice
You can pin and mount me like a butterfly

Two lumps, please
You're the bee's knees
But so am I

My obscure comment of the day: I remember blaring Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood as a teen while driving with my mother in the car. I need to pay better attention to lyrics. I'm so embarrassed.

I'm afraid I'm terrible with Smiths lyrics (which isn't to say I don't like them, just not as familiar). how about some Ulysses instead? This one seems like it could be a title for one of your paintings:
"the heaventree of stars hung with humid nightblue fruit"
If you're curious, it's from the Ithaca episode (one of my absolute favorites).
fingers crossed for (ADORABLE) coasters! Now off to check your fashiony blog. I've been longing for new outfits from you, they're always so pretty. Did you know the new Anthro catalogues are out early for July? The "Big Sky" story is really nice!

the rain in spain falls mainly on the plain.
since i got your pack of pins i wear one to school- in essex- almost everyday... i thought you would be interested in knowing since this means that loads of close to london children are looking at your pins very closely... because they can't tell if there are sheep on the hedgi pin or what is exactly going on with that girl's hair ... so we have had classroom discussions on them so i am can show them closely that their teacher is in fact wearing a pin with blindfolded hedge hogs or a girl with an apple on her head... and they love it... thought you might enjoy knowing....

James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George Dupree,
Took great care of his mother, though he was only three,
James James said to his mother, Mother, he said, said he,
You mustn't go down to the end of town, if you don't go down with me,
James James Morrison's mother said to her son, said she,
I shall go down to the end of town, but I'll be back in time for tea!
All the Smiths lyrics that I know have been used, so I thought I'd leave you some A. A. Milne instead!

Dine with a sexy girl.

"I am Human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does"
-- The Smiths
And from my current music obsession:
"Take it slow
Take it easy on me
Shed some light
Shed some light on me please"
-- Feist
And I just now realize how sad or depressing this little comment may come across... HA! No, all is well in Beth-ville. :)

How about a quotse from a children's book I just read? It's called When the Sky is Like Lace.
"You will also find that, on bimulous nights when the sky is like lace, the grass is like gooseberry jam. It's not really squooshy like jam, because then the otters' feet would slurp around and snails might drown. It only smells like gooseberry jam. But if you walk barefoot, it feels like the velvet inside a very old violin case."
Claire · June 30, 2007 at 02:38 PM
My brother and I were trying to figure out if ever there was a band that had sadder lyrics than the Smiths and all we could come up with was solo Morrissey. So, yeah!
How 'bout a little Sesame Street instead?
Sunny days, sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet!
Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?
Come and play
Everything's A-ok
Friendly neighbors
That's where we meet!
Can you tell me how to get how to get to Sesame Street?
(Big Bird was my favorite.)

Nada Jones · June 30, 2007 at 02:48 PM
when i was in college, my roommate and i wore out her smiths album on my turntable. wore it out i say. i made a mixed tape of my favorites and wore that out. and now close to 15 years later, i purchased a CD of their greatest hits and i do say: they are timeless and amazing. from vinyl to cellulose to cd - especially when you have them on shuffle with john coltrane, sloan, billie and ella. and a little chet baker because he was so tragically beautiful. (ohh, i digress. but chet baker... *swoon*)
so here are your lyrics, miss emily. i hope you preface it with a bit of imaginary fervent strumming of acoustic guitars and all...
sweetness, sweetness, i was only joking when i said by rights you should be bludgeoned in your bed/head (?)
(i could go on, and on, but i am forever mystified by that opener - what an opener indeed.)
bon weekend, lady E.

But, growing too stout,

So he passed all his life in that Kettle."

Emily, I will try to make up a limerick for you, since my family loves you so much, and you should have one! That is my gift but be forewarned, it is bad, poetry is not my forte.
There once was a girl named Emily
Who created hedgehog family
They came to life
As husband and wife
And created a family fascsimile

I read your blog all the time, so I guess it was time to leave you a comment anyway. I don't know any Smith's lyrics, but Art Brut sings I'm going to drink Hennesy with Morrisey on a beach out of reach in "I'm thinking of moving to LA"
Thanks for the fashions too!

I love prezzies!!
I'm a daily lurker who has been inspired by you to celebrate my own life through blogville. I don't know a smith quote, but I do have a Robert Smith quote from The Cure's song Treasure.
"Remember I was always true
Remember that I always tried
Remember I loved only you
Remember me and smile...
For it's better to forget
Than to remember me
And cry"

Not really. It's the first Smith's lyric that came to mind. Thanks for the nice idea.

Where dips the rocky highland
Of Sleuth Wood in the lake
There lies a leafy island
Where flapping herons wake
The drowsy water-rats;
There we've hid our faery vats,
Full of berries
And of the reddist stolen cherries.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weaping than you can understand.
By my countrys greatest poet, W.B Yeats

I was a radio dj in Cincinnati, Ohio on 97X years ago and The Waterboys 'A Girl Called Johnny' was the first band I ever played on air, followed by The Smiths with 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now'.
The Waterboys pip out The Smiths though:
"I remember a girl called Johnny
black as hell and white as a ghost"
LOVE the coasters, by the way :-)

I let my son play hooky one day (he' 15). He got bored around noon. I said "Go write a song." Here's a portion of what he wrote.
Standing at the edge of the water,
Wondering if I should dive right in.
Should I risk that fear of drowning,
Or live life not knowing how to swim?
So go on and bring down the thunder.
Go on and bring down the rain.
Cause no matter what sky I'm walkin' under.
I keep on walkin' just the same.

This beautiful creature must die

A death for no reason

Good Lord. How did I manage to do that... duplicate comments. I promise I wasn't trying to be sneaky. I would be more "original" certainly.

Every day is like sunday...
Every day is cloudy and grey...
Only not in Berkeley, CA where I am, it's all sunny and happy all the time. :(
I suppose that wasn't a Smiths lyric anyway, does Morrissey count?
Kelly Moore · July 02, 2007 at 12:30 AM
I just realized I typed that wrong... it's every day is *silent* and grey. I was thinking silent, but my hands typed cloudy. Weird.

so I meet you at the cemetery gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side

i'm late as well, but i'll still play along!
Take me out tonight
Where there's music and there's people
Who are young and alive
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven't got one anymore

A beautiful thought from Kahlil Gibran: "For what is it to die, But to stand in the sun and melt into the wind? And when the Earth has claimed our limbs, then we shall truly dance."
