The Black Apple › Inside A Black Apple

Just a few happy little things + a crime scene.

May 25, 2007 · Artsy (Mine), Craftsy (Mine)

Happy little things from my studio. The crime scene comes later.

Another new postcard design, hot off the presses and freshly available in the shop:

Cupcakecards

Also, this teeny-tiny limited run of embellished screen prints that are available also, where else? But in le shop:

And these little guys, who aren't in the shop (yet) but are part of the army I'm assembling to take to Brooklyn in June! They're just loungin' on the couch:

I've been keeping so darn busy with the shop lately (it's been eat-sleep-dream-blackapple-mode around here). Shipping, designing, making, the endless emailing...plus I've got so many new things I'm trying out, testing, and seeing what new products I can add to the little business...I'm even reviving an old favorite product. Ooooh...mysterious, mysterious. Seriously, though? It's a new and improved version, and I think you guys are going to love them.

In the midst of all of this I suddenly felt like I was totally losing it, and had to (yesterday) just throw up my hands at about 3 pm and just call it a "mental health" day. This involved lots of therapeutic baking, and a fair amount of cabernet sauvignon...the crime scene below (note nearly empty bottle of Yellowtail peeking out to the right):

The truest  "corner of my home" I could possibly offer at the moment (wink, wink). I'm feeling better though, and soothed.
However, being drunk in the afternoon is a strange thing that I do not need to get used to...says the girl who works from home.

Oh I know the crazy mental stress at the moment as well, at least you had a couple of hedgie drinkin' buddies around to share in teh fun! Please have a drink for me the next time during the next 9 months(since I'm pregnant and unable to do so).

I had this job one summer when I was in college that was in a real live office building downtown in the city I lived. I worked with the Futures market, which is strange, when you are an art major. And I worked with people out of New York City, which is equally weird when you are from Iowa.

They would always talk about going out for lunch and getting a drink and I was so mystified by how anyone could drink in the middle of the day and then come back to the office and work. One particularly stressful day, I went home at lunch and had a wine cooler. Just to see what it was like. I felt so guilty for the rest of the day, I could hardly get anything done.

Now, I have a strict "No alcohol before 6pm" rule. Though, sometimes I tell myself that it must be 6pm somewhere!

Yes, drunk in the afternoon is not something you should get used to, but it it a wonderful bonus of working at home is it not?

good luck with all your goings on, you are a dynamo!

Emily,
I think a sip or two in the afternoon every once in a while is quite romantic. I used to love sneeking out for a romantic lunch at work, when I first met Mr. Lovee, and going back to the office a bit tipsy, giggly, and in love...Wine makes me love everyone. It also makes me want to have huge feasts, and carry on like medieval royalty, which can be scary.

I think that should be your first book title..."drunk in the afternoon is a strange thing"

Oh, that picture of your kitchen just made me so happy just now. What homey yummy goodness. I'm on the jury of a big scary federal trial for weeks on end really feeling the not-working financial burden. We're off today and I've been paralyzed all morning by the what-am-i-gonna-do's. Then I saw your post.

Now, I'm heading to the store to get the fixings to make Mexican Broken Heart Cookies (crispy dark chocolate with cinnamon and touches of black pepper and cayenne); I'm going to throw open the windows, turn up the Ella Fitzgerald and bake the day away. Cheers, sweet apple! Hope to make it to Brooklyn to shop and say hello...

I love your little bandit hedgehog pals! Will those be in your shop any time soon!!? I can just imagine how much better (and cuter) our couch would look with one of those wee little guys to squeeze!

Your kitchen looks like mine did yesterday when I went crazy for brownies round about 10 am!! : ) Baking is perfect for the soul, I find!
Have a lovely weekend!!

I sorta did the same thing yesterday! Grabbed a towel (and the kid) and high-tailed it to the beach. (But don't tell anyone, ok?)

Have a great Holiday Weekend!!!!

oh, that's interesting, I had a crime scene at my place yesterday...what i should have done is grabbed myself a bottle or two, instead of carrying on like a mad woman...
