I finished work on my She Came From the Earth sculpture, and I'm quite pleased! I've also been painting and painting away, listening to T.A.L. archives, playing with Miette, and generally having a nice quiet time.
I'm about to go on a walk and do a little bit of thrifting, before I'm back in the studio for the day, but I wanted to post this little lady before I venture out:
And the basic source material (the little 3D girl seems to be a little bit more sheepish):
I hope you really appreciate my amazing cheesy photoshopping skills. You better.
Tomorrow there will be paintings! Huzzah.
Happy Thursday my sweets!
(EDIT)
Though my mad photoshopping skills are pretty amazing (as we've established), I decided to go outside and actually make a little woodland diorama-environment for stump girl.
I am thinking I might make this my first photo print that will be available in the shop? Maybe a small edition of 10 or 15?
Thoughts?
PS: Thrifting was pretty good...I went to the place that is just a few blocks of walking away and got a big vintage French/English dictionary, a pretty vintage glass pitcher (which is what I went for), and a perfect LP of Swan Lake, which is what I'm listening to right now:
Happy, happy.

Your photoshopping skills are cheesy but it does work with the 3D figure in a 2D space. It makes me think of those old photography posters with the kitten in the way it sits in the space.

The one photograph in the forest reminds me of my dentists office. The one that had different scenes in each room...The ocean, the forest, the night time city scene. What a memory! Have fun out venturing! xxo,V ps: Your girl is charming. Your characters in sculpture are incredible!!

I love her standing in the forest! She looks as if she keeping watch, maybe waiting for Hansel and Gretel to walk by.
Have you been watching Deadwood DVD's? It really is the best show ever. Huzzah!

She's gorgeous! I love, love, love that jewel-like color of her eyes. What a beauty! And I agree: she looks fantastic in her photoshopped Wonderland. :)

I love her...and the addition of the wee buttons, too! : )
Marjorie/marmeecraft · April 12, 2007 at 01:32 PM
She is amazing! And I appreciate all the amazing cheesy skills you can throw at us ;) But seriously, I love the forest behind her.
ashley G · April 12, 2007 at 01:44 PM
How freakin' charming is she? I hope I can snatch her at the next update...if you can part with her!
Kathy · April 12, 2007 at 01:48 PM
she is really sweet. I hope you are intending to sell her as a print infront of the forest as well as the sculpture.
moogan · April 12, 2007 at 02:02 PM
Love how she turned out and your photoshopping is a riot. :) Have fun thrifting! :)
Shawn · April 12, 2007 at 02:55 PM
...joy, joy.
Before the update I thought, …but I wonder what she would look like ACTUALLY IN the woods. Whereas your PS skills are grand- yes, the second picture captures her, umm...essence!
P.S. I just noticed that on your side bar you list "X The Band." Without thinking I once Googled them only as "X" + you can surely imagine why that might not have been the way to go.

I don't know... I think you need to work on those photoshop skills a bit.
You're no Dartanyan Von Kane!
(actually, the photo version is lovely!!!)
xoxo!

Love the bathroom decor and your new sculpture- thank you for so much sunny joy on a rainy cold day in Boston
Anyagirl · April 12, 2007 at 05:17 PM
The "She Came From The Earth" sculpture is amazingly sweet and I like that the mood is a little bit different than the painting - it's like you caught her in a bit of an uncertain moment: maybe this is chronologically prior to the painting, and she's still not as sure what she thinks about growing up from the earth and how things will all turn out.
And you've given me record player envy. I want one. Like yours.

I love your work, I would like to order a young girl in the same kind that this one, is this possible and how much that would cost it?
yoanne · April 12, 2007 at 06:10 PM
She's perfect! And I think she does look her best in the real life outdoor setting. The photo print is a great idea!
Diane Duda · April 12, 2007 at 06:22 PM
I love the little face on your sculpture, and the outdoorsy picture is really neat!
Your thrifting finds all sound wonderful. Sounds like you are having a great day. :)
Erika · April 12, 2007 at 06:28 PM
she is wonderful and warm and i love her in the woods. I had decided long ago that when I have died and get to heaven i will ask God for wings and live in the trees and flowers like a fairy. maybe i will be her friend there. :)
Patrina · April 12, 2007 at 06:36 PM
hope you had a lovely day!!!
stilettoheights · April 12, 2007 at 07:07 PM
I love the idea of the photo print! and how she looks in the woodland setting.
The only thing I would suggest ~ in the photoshopped version, and on the desk, you can really see her roots, but not in the outdoor shot. I can't really tell she is part tree when her roots blend in.

Oh my, I love the diorama version of stump girl! And I like the added touch of the white buttons. Charming, as always :)
Beth · April 12, 2007 at 11:17 PM
she looks great! Can't wait to see more updates!
Julie · April 12, 2007 at 11:39 PM

You have awsome ideas. I LOVE this! I like the mixed media of it! I just love it!
tiffany · April 13, 2007 at 12:19 PM
The green and yellow and red in this photo make me want more color in my home. And love the vintage suitcases.
Oh! And the girl is fabulous and I think a photo print would be awesome.
ambika · April 13, 2007 at 02:01 PM
She's absolutely wonderful! I love that you paint, but that you can also translate the paintings into 3D! Amazing!
Elizabeth · April 13, 2007 at 02:40 PM
She is very sweet. I'm glad to have found your site and was wondering if you would be interested in trading blog links. If so, let me know, my blog is http://artisan-jewelry.blogspot.com/ and good luck with the work you are doing now.
Can't wait to hear from you.
sandraeileenartisanjewelry · April 13, 2007 at 03:02 PM
I think I've referred to her a few times as 'She Fell to Earth,' which obviously makes no sense at all. But, she's cute! She is wearing my favorite dress. And she looks wonderful in her diorama environment.
Helen · April 14, 2007 at 03:47 AM
Oh she is darling! I adore what your are doing with sculpture now. She is just wonderful!
