Under a Cookie Sun

April 17, 2007 · Artsy (Mine), Food and Drink, Hurrahs!

Hey, you!

Yeah, you!

Thank_you

Thanks so much for making today's update another big success...there were so many originals this time around (paintings have been top priority in my world lately, as I've told you) that I hope all that wanted some original work got a piece they really love.

I promise that next time there will be some more sewn stuff. My sewing machine was looking at me so dejectedly today as I finished stitching up the hedgie plush...

Hedgie_3

...it seemed to be saying something along the lines of "Come on you big jerk! Drop the brushes and get with the...um...stitchin' (?)". So, I'm going to work on some dollies (yay!) in the coming weeks, and some more hedgie plush (I'm still tweaking my pattern, AND they are so darn fat and fun to make).

The little mushroom-sitting girly at the top was part of the update today, as was this sweetie:

Tess
"Tess" 6"x8"x1"

As well as this gal who looks-not-unlike-myself with a kitten-not-so-unlike-my-own:

Memiette1_2
"Me + Miette"  6"x7"

Also, this set of quadruplet hedgies (a couple are still in the shop if you hop over there quickly!):

Grey   Lime Pink Red

And since it's TAX DAY (I think?!) today, I thought I would share a little comedy (well, it's funny to me).
This is my tax return paperwork, ready to head off to the IRS a few weeks ago:

Yep, I definitely gussied it up as if it were one of my regular orders. I even included some postcards and a print...I'm not kidding. It was about 3:00 AM when I finished them, so that might've been what possessed me to woo the IRS with my cuteness. Or maybe I just wanted to impress upon them the notion of why I had to write them such a frighteningly big check. Like, "See all this goodness and sweetness? That is why I have to give you this moolah. Because I make this stuff for a living". Anyway, I took a picture cause I knew you'd get a kick out of it.

Whew! And now I'm going to make some dinner and eat some more of the chocolate chip cookies I managed to make in between all of my update-readying-last-minute stuff today.

Happy Tuesday, sweet peas, and thank you again for bein' around.

Love your tax return envelope cuteness! Very thoughtful. I'm sure it'll cheer up whoever handles your tax return considerably :) (sure cheered me up!)

It's killing me that I missed the update to help out in a Brownie meeting where I just sat with my chin on my fist watching (no need for my help after all!). I'm crying crying crying over missing SOOOO many wonderful paintings. Guess I'll go console myself with chocolate chip cookies!

Miss Emily,
Congrats galore.
Miss Foxling just said, oh no, I missed it, and I said, what?? She said, Emily's update, and I said, Oh NO!I thought it was tomorrow. I just can not believe it. :) I put my old Underwood typewriter right under " The Last 20 Seconds of Claire De Lune Painting." She is soooo happy. She wanted me to tell you, she lives in lovely happy place.

Next time, I'll be on my game.

Cute plate!

Nadia Lewis · April 17, 2007 at 11:31 PM

yay! i was able to snatch up an original this time, i'm super happy. after sending your tax forms in the package, they better give you a refund instead of taking your money.

and that plate is sooooo cool. love the placement of the cookie too. mind if i ask where you got it? is it from you-know-where?

gigegy · April 17, 2007 at 11:37 PM

You just made someones day! I bet nobody else sends treats to the IRS!

Jane · April 18, 2007 at 12:00 AM

Great stuff in the shop - as usual! :)
I laughed out loud over the tax goodies - how sweet. Someone over there will totally appreciate that.

By the way, that is one pretty plate - where did you score such a treat?

Maritza · April 18, 2007 at 01:29 AM

I´ll have to wait patiently for the print version of Ten Arms - it´s sooo beautiful! Also, love your plate (and cookie), where did you get it from?

I would love to be a fly on the wall in the tax worker's cubicle who opens your adorable return! : )

Your Hedgehog plushies make we feel sleepy and cozy! They look great to snuggle with! : )

someone at the irs is very lucky! i wish i could see his/her face when it was opened. and i wonder if one person kept all the goodies or if he/she shared them with the officemates.
i love the girl with glasses!
i missed yeterday's update because i had a hair cut that ended up taking forever!!!
oh well, maybe next time...

risa · April 18, 2007 at 10:47 AM

I sure those IRS people have to shop sometimes and really on-line would be the way to go during tax time I think. So, I say advertise where all the money is headed. :)

tiffany · April 18, 2007 at 10:48 AM

one: love the stuffed hedgies. especially their scarves. so fashionable!
two: love the hat on your about photo. so fashionable!!
three: don't remember. not so fashionable!!!

preeety · April 18, 2007 at 12:51 PM

I'm so glad you painted Tess! I love your work and lurk around other Etsy artists that are similar. But I've always felt a little sad and left out that there was no art that included cute little girls from different backgrounds. As a woman of color, I sometimes can't help but feel like even though I've lived my whole life here, I can't just be a part of things sometimes. Anyway, I'm glad you painted Tess--you tickled my heart!

Jenny · April 18, 2007 at 04:42 PM

Ooh, those new paintings and softies are too cute! I especially like the painting of you & Miette- there just seems to be an extra pinch of specialness to it. You are so brave to send cuteness and joy to the IRS. I hope they get a kick out of it!

Claire · April 18, 2007 at 06:44 PM

Hey Emily!

Been meaning to email you but time has just slipped away from me! Between selling cars and making trips back to Florida to see my daughter, my days and weeks get pretty full!

Love the note to the IRS!!! Too bad you had to include a check with such cute artwork!!! Let's hope they (the people who took your cash!) appreciate every minute of your hard work!

Love the website! Really Cute and fun to look thru! Sent the url to my daughter - she loved it too!!! Trying to spark some interest in your work with her friends in Daytona Beach!!!

Thanks again for being such a great customer to work with on your new Versa! You're an extremely pleasant person to be around! Wish all of my days were as terrific as the day you bought your car! Hope the Aerostar isn't too sad these days!

Please tell Josiah "Hello". You take care...and stop by the dealership every now and then so I can see your smiling face!!!

steve · April 18, 2007 at 07:49 PM

OMG I just love your creations!!!!!

Danielle Nilsson · April 19, 2007 at 10:49 AM

Thank YOU for concocting such an amazing shop update! I'm so glad I was able to get myself a little treat this time around. I can't wait until it arrives!!! :) I hope you'll make prints out of all of the new paintings; they're all so beautiful and skillfully done. Hope you're having a great day!

Tessa McSorley · April 19, 2007 at 10:37 PM

As always, in love of your hedgies...
