Happy Hedgie Simple Bathroom

I don't even know what to do with bathrooms, as far as pretty-fying them goes. I think it's because in my normal interior-design tastes, I'm pretty Baroque and whimsical and verge on excessive, which is exactly the sort of thing you want to avoid in a bathroom. If anything, I want my bathroom to resemble a Real Simple still life, even though I don't want that in any way for the rest of my home.

Clean. Unfussy.
But its still gotta be cute.

SO. My bathroom was very boring and had nothing in the way of decoration, and I've lived in this apartment for about 6 months now! It had to be remedied...so, naturally, the Noble Hedgehog came to my rescue. I had a bit of yardage of perfect hedgie fabric from Superbuzzy (Reprodepot now has it in as well):

So I fashioned a shower curtain out of it + a pretty blue window curtain that didn't work in its original context and some big brown vintage buttons at the top.

I also added a wee leftover strip to my hand-towel:

And then, the finishing touch (because, although I want it nice + plain in there, I don't want it to be super boring) 2 simple canvases I painted up featuring my approximation of the graphic Japanese hedgie and tree from the fabric design:

(It cracks me up that the hedgehog panel looks like a "Hedgehog crossing" road sign or something).

I love it!
Bathroom-decorating-conundrum solved.

I absolutely love the whole bathroom ensemble; most especially the little paintings and that darling shower curtain. My bathroom is now feeling sadly neglected and is hoping for similar attentions in the near future :)

the towel and curtain are just too cute!

I love the redecorated bathroom...especially the hand towel! What a cute and easy little project; I would have never thought to spruce up a towel with a bit of spare fabric.

This is so bizarre. As I was relaxing off the last of the cold, Amelia in the background, I was thinking, do I show too much of my world in my blog? Emily would never show her, BATHROOM! And you did, you did!!! I adore it, and vous!!!xxo,V
Yes, hedgie crossing. You must venture there...

Simple, yet adorable. I just made a shower curtain, too (out of a sheet) but I think it's too short. I may add a strip of fabric along the bottom like you did.

I love it! So sweet.

I love it!! I have been feeling desperately the urge to decorate our blah-white walled rental and you continuously inspire with your interior decor skills! : ) Sigh.....I love hedgehogs! : )

it is really pretty and you're right it should be simple...

I like the slight color though, very nice!

Now THAT is cute!

Leta · April 10, 2007 at 08:15 AM

Real Simple indeed! I wouldn't be surprised if one of these days this bathroom gets featured in the mag!

that is hilarious. 'Warning - Trees floating above hedgehog crossing'
Very cute.

Darling! I love it. You know my grandmother loves hedgies just like you do and I asked her one day why she loves them so.. She said it is because she kind of prickly on the outside, but soft and squishy in the middle... which is true of her actually. :) Love those hedgies.

Oh I love that fabric! And I agree, bathrooms should be clean and uncluttered and functional, but still with that added touch of creativity - just a subtle smudge of it!

Gillian · April 10, 2007 at 10:36 AM

How cute!! I love it. You're so talented.

Rhonda · April 10, 2007 at 10:39 AM

I love what you've done with your bathroom! Thanks for the inspiration, I might have to try my hand at sewing a shower curtain now.

Amber · April 10, 2007 at 01:51 PM

Love it, all of it!

Beth · April 10, 2007 at 03:03 PM

This is precious! I love it! Can I come visit your bathroom?...wait that's not what I mean! :)

Kate · April 10, 2007 at 05:31 PM

That is so freakin' cute. I love the canvases because they really get that repitition you want with a theme. Good job.

Kristin · April 10, 2007 at 05:53 PM

Your bathroom turned out very nice. Not too overdone at all. Still looks very tranquil which is perfect for a bathroom. I still haven't decorated my bathroom yet and it's been about 2 years! Probably because I bought the place and was broke after making the downpayment ;-P

Jennifer · April 10, 2007 at 08:06 PM

LOL! Hedgehog crossing. Cracks me up!

RAchelle · April 11, 2007 at 02:21 AM
