Hello!
I didn't fall down a well, so don't worry about my little blog-break. I've been busy with real world-y things, but not boring ones. Fun ones, mostly. Like helping paint living rooms (which is very fun to me) and learning that the slang for margaritas among some is just 'Ritas and also...acquiring a new car.
This weekend, my big event was bringing one of these home:
Holy Moley, A New Car! We went to the Nissan/Volkswagen dealer, and folks, I have to tell you...After all of the scary stories of the VW's, and after walking onto the lot and spying these right away, I knew it was love. I just walked right up to the car (the Nissan Versa hatchback, for curious minds) and just kinda knew that was what I would drive home that day. You have no idea what this means to me. I have been driving a 1994 Aerostar minivan (that's right, a 13-year old minivan) since I was 16 (so, 8 years). It doesn't have air conditioning. It doesn't have a cd player. It is too feeble to drive more than a couple of hours away. So this is big for me. Really big.
It may not looks as crazy-cute in the Innernets picture, but I promise it is a cutie in real life. I am just currently too lazy to run downstairs and photograph it in its natural habitat! Well, that, and it is covered with a nice film of pollen...which has descended on my neck of the woods with a fierce vengeance.
But I love my car. I really do. We're going to drive it up the Easy coast this summer (probably for Renegade...I'm still not 100% on whether to drive or fly) and I can't wait.
*Sigh*
A car that is healthy enough to take a road trip in...
Anyway, I know that lots of folks are eagerly awaiting the next shop update (which will include the sculptures/"action figures", paintings, hedgehog plush, some kid's tees, and maybe a doll or two!).
So, the next shop update will be:
Friday, at 2:00 pm Eastern. Hooray!
I've been painting quite a bit lately, and here are a few of the pieces that are finished:
I've got 4 or so more that are in-progress...one in particular that I'm just crazy about. Will post as they are ready to show!
Thank you again for all of the car advice. Really. I couldn't get back to most of you, but I'm tellin' you that it really helped alot in making a big decision. Actually, when I got to the lot, the first thing I said to the salesman was "So I hear that the VW's have a habit of the windows spontaneously falling in", to which he replied: "Yes, that's true. They used to be held up with these little plastic clips". Now, how would I know that if I hadn't had all of your stories, good & bad, to help me out?
I wouldn't have.
xoxo

My nephew just got one of those cars, and he is completely in love with it. Of course, he's trying to "pimp" it all out, so it's getting ridiculous, but still. He loves the car. Congrats :)

NISSAN VERSA! Now, you are travelling Hiro-style. Maybe it will give you super powers.

i hate spending money on things that don't result in coming home with something pretty, such as car repairs and such...but a brand new car...that's a different story!
Congratulations!

Congrats on the new car - it does look adorable from the Internet picture, don't worry! What color did you choose...sorry if i missed that if you already said what color.
Hey I have a question for you: why don't you usually sign your name in your paintings? Just curious...and maybe you have your name somewhere in them hidden or something - no?
Well, enjoy your new [healthy] car! I'm feeling like a nap wants me....TTYL

leslie · March 27, 2007 at 08:18 PM
yay new cars! do you know that i haven't driven in like 10 years but will soon need to relearn? and i think i may be able to make it to the store update this week. i hope, i hope. i wish i could drive up to renegade with you! dang it. i wish i could go and meet you in person. i met jen corace there a couple of years ago and was totally star struck. it was really embarassing but then she invited me for coffee so it was all okay. (i couldn't go because it was right before i left for ecuador but still the invite made my heart pitter patter.)

The car is cute! The paintings look great. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'm fast enough for one!
Helen · March 28, 2007 at 12:49 AM
You're doing kids t-shirts.....oh no....!!!
New cars are always exciting. All that newness. And new smell. And, well, newness.
Alison · March 28, 2007 at 07:18 AM
I love your new ride! So cute. I know what it's like to drive a feeble car and how wonderful it must feel to know you can take a road trip without worrying that you'll get stranded somewhere. I drive a 2000 Saturn that has 112,000 miles on it. I've driven 111,996 miles in that car. Crazy, huh? She still runs well, but I don't go too far from home...just in case.
Rhonda · March 28, 2007 at 08:17 AM
Congrats on the car!!!!
also....my bf and I have an Aerostar minivan...not quite as old as yours, but a damn minivan nonetheless.
stilettoheights · March 28, 2007 at 08:42 AM
Nissan has a plant in this area so Versas are plentiful 'round these parts- super cute. I actually "car shop" on my commute to work + have been looking at these. I forgot about the VW car window thing- it happened enough times to a woman in my office (+ her dad is a VW salesman) that she got fed up + bought a new car. Congratulations + as someone who used to have a car that would not reach the speed to drive on freeways or go too far from a "pick me up, my car died" phone call, I know what you were going through.
shona · March 28, 2007 at 08:51 AM
You're the second person this week to post about getting a new car. Congratultations and I guess I'll see you at Renegade! :)
Marilyn · March 28, 2007 at 09:33 AM
congrats on your eco-car purchase. i am so pleased to see the emerging popularity of subcompact cars. i myself bought a honda fit <3, which i completely adore. anyway, happy driving to us!
melissa · March 28, 2007 at 10:04 AM
I loooove Mary and Mittens!! I hope I will have enough money this paycheck to buy her and the girl with the goat. Yay!
Michelle · March 28, 2007 at 10:15 AM
Love the new paintings!
Also, I have to say Emily that I although I did not get in on the car buying discussion, I really think that you made a great decision and I think you will be very pleased with this fun little car. And, I think it's as cute as a button... not to mention that I, myself have been driving a tiny piece of Japanese engineering for apx 9 years and the little thing acts like a brand new piece of equipment still. I have not had one little piece of trouble ever. I hope and have every solid reason to believe this will be the case for you so there is really only one other thing to say... HOORAY!!! A new car is fun! Fun! FUN! Congratulations!!!!!!!!
tiffany · March 28, 2007 at 11:22 AM
Oh.. I forgot to say the word ...zippy ... which is an important word that comes to mind here.
tiffany · March 28, 2007 at 11:23 AM

CONGRATULATIONS!!! And I'll leave it at that, short and sweet! :)
Beth · March 28, 2007 at 01:39 PM
That does look like a cute car! I'm also looking for a new car and hadn't even thought about Nissans. Maybe I will take a look.
Congrats on the new wheels. I know that's a big deal. I'm still driving around the car I bought used in 1998! Can't wait to finally get something new!
Jennifer · March 28, 2007 at 02:53 PM
