Thank you so much for all of the sculpted-figure-love!!!
I wasn't expecting such a great response...I often think that maybe I just love something that I make. I hardly ever assume that someone else will love it, too.
These are two things that came from my studio yesterday...this little one is almost like a Black Apple "action figure":
I think that perusing all of the amazing designer vinyl toys at Kidrobot resulted in her chunky, stylized stature. I would so love to design some toys with them, or another toy manufacturer!
Here is a new illustration featuring this gal:
It's available in the shop, naturally.
Some other good things:
*The new Mark Ryden work is all up in the gallery section of his website.
Amazing.
Funny though, my stump girl appears to have an illegitimate stump baby (see if you can spot him at the bottom of the page!) that she didn't know about.
*Speaking of stumps, have you seen the incredible stumpy cake that Heidi made for her little guy's recent birthday? She is such a cool mama...I either want to
A.) somehow be her kid or
B.) be just as neat when I'm a mom.
Option B somehow seems more likely ;)

how amazing is Mark Ryden's work! I love the ghost girl and the stump baby that reminds me of Little Otik.
Heidi's mind for engineering is spectacular. Anyone who can make a plushie toilet is a genious in my book.

you would/will be the best mommy ever. maybe i can be your daughter (even if i'm a few years older than you) and then heidi would be my grandmother...

I love your little action figure there! So sweet! And the illustration to go with it is just adorable. So much to love here!
I really think your work has taken an exciting turn here, not that it wasn't wonderful to begin with! :)

I particularly enjoyed the illustration of the girl.
And obviously I can never let my son see Heidi's cake or he will adopt her. Serious cake baking experiments ahead. I think I'll go tell her how much I love her mushrooms.

Neat stuff! Heidi's work reminds me of the "puffy stickers" I had as a kid. I specifically remember a toilet with google eyes!

I adore "The Tree Show" -Mark Ryden's work is unbelievable. And, isn't he intriguing??? He is satisfyingly wonderful, just what I had hoped he would be like and more!
As for Heidi! What a mom! Can you imagine having a mom who makes you that cake?? And those mushroom cupcakes! I have to admit, my mom was pretty amazing herself. And Miss Emily, I have no doubt that you will be the most extraordinary mommy in the planet.

you are utterly adorable, and you flatter me far too much little miss! You will be a brilliant mother some day i just know it!
i adore your foray into clay figures they are so lovely!!!
I also feel your pain when it comes to silkscreening. I always feel like it there is so much that can go wrong, and its so an unpredictible gamble :(
heidi · March 21, 2007 at 10:04 AM
I love your clay figure so much, the expression is just fantastic and adorable! Perhaps you can contact Kidrobot with your design and see what they say, your artwork is amazing (no harm trying right?) take care!

I think it would be a natural progression,to team up and do a (somewhat) mass-produced,manufactured doll! I love stump girls illegitamate baby, she really is cousin to this MR exibit,I hadn't thought of that before! Lovely litle action figure.
