Amy's tabletop-post today reminded me to show the funny little tablecloth I stitched up for my own kitchen a few nights ago. I am planning matching cafe curtains (maybe tonight?) out of the incredible vintage fabric (the cutie one with the mod teapots and letters and such) that my good buddy Ashley sent a few months back.
For some reason it has been really difficult for my to find tablecloths that I really like...even with vintage, I don't have the best of luck. The ones that I find are often an off-putting large scale floral or something. So, stitching my own it was!
The "main" fabric is a really beautiful salmony-red weave linen, with mustard linen, the cute vintage cafe print, and (my favorite fabric in the universe) simple red on white dots. And I can see from the photos that it desperately needs to be ironed. And has lots of little problems. That is one of my problems as a seamstress...I have a really hard time with "compulsive ironing" bit that is necessary whist sewing.
Sara and I totally scored today while scavenging for old treasure out in the country today, loads of eye candy to follow...tomorrow! Including one very lovely, lovely green velvet chair.
xoxo

And what a fantastic job you did! It's probably better you going with making a tablecloth, it just adds to the charm of your home.

You know, for some reason or another I really dislike tablecloths (something about the way they tend to shift around on the table whenever you move--it's one of those weird pet peeves of mine) but yours is incredibly adorable. I could actually see myself with a tablecloth like that.
Looking forward to seeing your scavenging finds too! :)

Yor blog is absolutely pure joy to the eyes and soul. You`re just my kinda artist! I also mentioned your blog and Etsy shop today in my own blog ....which is horribly boring compare to yours.......(tear!). I just keep on hoping that all that inspiration I`m getting from people like you, will somehow open me up and I can create something as fantastic as you do.
I wish you all the best and ..... my advice to you - dream BIG, girl!!!!!!!!!

heeeeee.
this is too funny.
we recently painted our kitchen
an apple-y kind of green
but ran out of money before it was time
to get rid of the
ug-leee linoleum on the floor
and i have been trying
ever since to convince my husband
that black and white tiles
would look so good
but had a hard time finding
a visual
to prove my point
and then i come to your blog today
and poof!
there it is!
:)
(oh...and since i am gushing,
i love the tablecloth, too!!)

wonderful job on the table cloth....you are so very talented with all the wonderful little and sometimes very big things you do....
I am in awe, I can't even put a button back on after it's fallen off.

Your Kitchen is straight out of a magazine. Of course, the tablecloth makes it. I can not wait to hear of the treasure hunting. I have to go into the real world and actually show my face. hee. Seems like it is time, as all my friends are annoyed and wanting a piece of me. Isn't that hard? They don't understand that when I am creating... Well. Why am I going on like this? I can not wait to hear about the Green velvet... sounds wonderful!!

Oh I love, love and adore the colours in your table cloth. As I costume designer I should be fastiduous at the inbetween ironing supposedly necessary for making things, but alas I think I can get away with not doing it far too often.

I really like this idea. I just made some cafe curtains, and I know what you mean about not being able to find even vintage table clothes that work. I have an old wooden table, which need protection. I love the homemade feel of the one you made.

i am the same way with sewing. i always blame it on space...one day when i have more i can leave out the iron and will use it more...ha ha. i don´t think so. although i actually enjoy ironing my clothes, just not while sewing.
i can´t wait to see your treasures tomorrow. i can´t wait to go treasure hunting in colorado...
