A Sorta Fairytale

February 05, 2007 · About Me (Mostly), Artsy (Mine), Fashiony Things, Hooray for Mail!

Today was a very nice, Emily-style fairytale day. I spent the afternoon painting and watching the film version of Matilda, which I love. I've been working on a Valentine's present-painting for the sweetest of boys, and also my own portrait of Ofelia from Pan's Labyrinth (which I saw for the second time last weekend, and, if possible, became even more smitten).

Ofelia, 11"x14"x2"

She'll be posted to the shop in the next update, which should be in about a week or so!
I then had super-deluxe Mexican dinner with my wonderful friend Corie, who never fails to remind me of a baby bird. In the best way possible. I liked my clothing ensemble today quite a bit, so I made sure to snap a little photo of it...

I think the whole shebang (minus the tights) is Anthropologie (oooh, and the ivory-print blouse is Urban Outfitters/last Summer). Skirt from 3 Falls ago, pinafore-tank from this year's Spring collection, and boots from last year's Winter. I also wore my favorite necklace today, which I got from Snapcrafty about a year ago. This necklace is the perfect necklace, I have decided, and I wish that I had bought all that Sandra had in stock, because I could've had some very happy friends. It magically looks great with everything, and a few of the shop girls at the Anthropologie in Union Square used to recognize me by it. So, I suppose it is my "co-signature necklace" for the time being, (sharing a title, of course, with my skeleton key necklaces).

Now I'm watching Closer, which is a favorite film... and not just because of my husband's amazing portrayal of "Larry", the saucy dermatologist. Natalie Portman's "Alice" reminds me so much of myself in all of the least-flattering and confusing ways. And I'm working + painting + the like.
Tomorrow, my little Bandit and I are going on an adventure to poke around in the countryside for old things. I think this is going to be a good week.
I can feel it in my bones, Buster.

PS:  A lovely and ornate package arrived from Vanessa yesterday, including the sweetest little scarf-wearing mouse. Thank you, thank you, lady...you are so very sweet.

Oh, yes... I love that necklace too.
see you, g

I love Closer too, even though it has my arch nemesis Julia Roberts in it....

you are right about the Natalie Portman thing though....I played her role while doing scene study in art school....what beautiful and terrifying place to go in your head...

oh, and you can have Clive in that movie, as Jude is all mine.

ps- you are very pretty in your outfit, you look like a fond memory, if that makes any sense.

I adore your Ofelia! And, I enjoy so very much posts about wardrobes. I have this necklace much like yours, now mine only has one bird and yes, it is the perfect necklace for me too, but, the strangest thing, on more than ten occasions, people have said, I love your Virgin Mary Necklace??? Mr. Lovee and I have tried to figure it out??? It does not look like the Virgin Mary at all, which would be okay, but it does not??? Funny little people. Soooo, I am tickled you loved the package. But, you already know this. Did I put in the typed letter? Mr. Mouse looks dashing with the crown on, I have forgotten is it ears in front of or behind the ribbon??? I really need to get to the theatre soon!! xoxo Vanessa

I share your love of Clive Owen. In fact, I often watch Gosford Park just for the opening scene of the daughter's sweater and for all of the Clive scenes! He's just so...SO!

Hi Miss Emily- I've been following your blog since I stumbled upon your turntable pins on etsy months ago, but I've been too shy to say hello! I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog- your writing is as beautiful as your art.

love, ann from sleepy records (who often imagines Black Apple album art!)

Wow emily! I'm just amazed at your creativity and PRODUCTIVity! (WHEN do you sleep?!) Hey, I'm wondering if you could give me some of your expertise re. art prints. I'm in the market for a new art print printer. Could you tell me what you use, and what you've found helpful in making your prints. Thanks so much. I'm not sure if I should go with HP or EPSON and I'd like to print on canvas as well as art quality card stock. Any advice would be SO appreciated! Thanks so much dear!

I bought this top way back and was so disappointed that I looked pregnant in it. It's so darling on you and so so perfect with the rest of your ensemble.

The necklace is just one of those pieces that everyone envies. It just is.

I would like to discuss your show further for the boutique and for next November when you get a chance.

Your day sounds lovely and NYC is bitter just so you know...so so cold!

I have only just discovered painting whilst watching films, my productivity has increased dramatically. I too yesterday watched Closer, followed by Garden state(a firm favourite) and then Neverland.... up there as one of my favourite days! I am crying i don't own that necklace! xx

I love your outfit--it is such a cute combination of styles! :) Your outfits always inspire me 'cause they're so storybookish (in a good way of course!). :D Love the necklace too...

Good luck poking around in the countryside for old things! That is one of my favorite pasttimes; I'm known to spend hours just going from one shop to another, digging through baskets of dusty old stuff and poking my nose into every corner to make sure I haven't missed anything. Do show us any goodies you come across!! :)

Casey · February 05, 2007 at 06:01 PM

Your outfit is simply perfect in everyway. Great Ofelia too!
