December 28, 2006 · The Magic Sock (A Random Assortment)

Some pretty things around the house (attempting to replace the cheer of the now-discarded tree). I had a massive thrifting day yesterday, and later had some quality time with the new Tom Waits boxset (a beloved Christmas present from Sarah!) and my apartment. Ooh la la...skeleton keys...

My newly framed Magic Jelly prints:

A lovely Alice-y Christmas gift from my friend Jenny & a thrifted sugar bowl painted candy-pink:

A thrifted vintage wool sweater that I spruced up with a ramshackle group of buttons (modeled in the midst of my wreck of a studio):

Last, the coolest stocking present I bought this year (in case you don't recognize that wistful face, it's David Lynch). It's from another amazing Etsy seller, Reckon, and is being modeled by a happy recipient here:

The shop is back in business, and I'm slowly but surely getting back into the swing of things.

At this moment, I'm baking Nigella's chocolate loaf cake from How to be a Domestic Goddess and am about to watch North by Northwest...
Just try to out-cozy me. Just you try.

Love it all, including North by Northwest! Enjoy! Hope you had a perfect Christmas! :)

Hello, I just wanted to pop in and say hi :) I've been reading your blog for a few weeks, and for Christmas a friend bought me one of your prints! I just love it! I framed and hung it yesterday, and Mysterious Genevieve is now the first thing you see walking in my front door! :)

Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your world and your art with everyone here on your blog :)

mmmm...such lovely things you have decorated your apt with! I especially love the keys and the great Magic Jelly Print. I have often thought of getting one of those great little numbers.

I am jealous of your Alice print! so lovely.

Beautiful photos... Love the pink sugar bowl especially!! :D I also really like your idea for using a motley group of buttons to spruce up a thrifted cardigan; I shall have to keep that in mind next time I'm thrifting! :)

Beautiful pictures! I like your sweater with all its different buttons.

I got the Tom Waits box set for the boyfriend and he loved it. Darling cardigan (and everything else too!). I'll have to remember it's simple things like buttons that make an old thing interesting & fun.

I covet your wall color. Your overall decorating skills are wonderful. Have a terrific New Year!!!

I love today's photos. I read your blog frequently but haven't commented before. Before it scrolls off your "books list" on the left side of your blog, had to say to you that I love, love, love Little,Big by John Crowley. The down side is, I think I read it when you were about 3 years old. LOL! Yeah, it's been a long time! *grin*

Your blog is simply charming!!! I love your photos of your apartment...I am coveting your wall color (with the skeleton keys and the prints)...do you know the color name/brand of the paint? I have been searching for the perfect wall color for my bedroom and I think that it just might be it! I would appreciate the info if you have it.

amandajean · December 31, 2006 at 07:18 PM

Pretty please, could you tell me what paint you used on the walls in the top couple of photos? I am notorious for choosing too dark a color then freaking out and going back to linen. Thanks! Mercedes

Hey this is a great blog! I love Tom Waits and I want to listen to him now. He came to our town, Louisville, and I wasn't here to see him, but, it must have been great, it sold out in 20 mins. In my deepest voice...have a great smokin day under the piano, cause your so tired from selling all the items in your shop-which is a good thing...smile.

You have to listen to Sufjan Stevens-my personal favorite is Come feel the Illinois-Casimer Pulasky Day and John Wayne Gasey, Jr. You might like anything Sufjan does, but these are pretty good. He played live on NPR-great show-you can download and watch for free at Austin City Limits.
