Thank you, thank you for all of the warm well-wishings about the move/settling in!

I thought it would be best to show you just some small vignettes or snippets of the apartment at large (so far!). Among other things, we have a lovely bun from a little bird, my lovely dressform Mathilde (my mother gave her to me several Christmases ago, and she at one time had my same measurements). She's so lovely, and at the moment, she's sporting my beautiful capelet (one of my favorite possessions). We also have a picture of yesterday's breakfast (red pears, rosemary rolls, and icebox chocolate cake with hot chocolate and two marshmallows)...and...what else. Oh yes, some of my favorite artwork, and the highly anticipated (and not a bit disappointing!) Anthropologie rug. It's so beautiful...I love it. And the newly Ebay'ed 1940's quilt which you see a corner of above. I will share the whole thing sometime soon. I think you'd really like it.

The rooms themselves (particularly the studio, which is a nice but somewhat oppressive color of deep orange) aren't exactly-lovely-and-perfectly-how-I-want-them, partially because I'm out of new-apartment-decoration money for a little bit. It's certainly coming right along though...and it is strange to think that exactly a week ago I was in a rented minivan, driving through the beautiful, autumn-clad hills of Virginia. And now I'm settling. And the nest is feeling better.

I'm thinking of painting, both the studio and some painting-paintings, this weekend. I am very eager to get back to making things on an every-day basis, but I also don't want to leave the apartment in the lurch. Do you know what I mean? I'm just a bit afraid if I drop the ball prematurely, it will stay just-barely-not-there. So it's getting most of my love for the moment, but I'm sure it will only be a matter of days before there are new dollies and new work for the shop. Speaking of the little shop, half of the holiday cards have gone already! Thank you! I'm so happy about them...
Also, for those not utterly enmeshed in the Etsy-world, the site is going down for the full weekend, starting late Friday night and (if all goes as planned) coming back on Monday AM. They're doing a massive update and overhauling + hopefully improving the way that the site works and looks. I just hope that it all goes off without a hitch...then I can breathe a happy, happy sigh on Monday.
Everything is getting back to normal, or will be soon. And that feels very, very good.

your apartment looks like it suits you so perfectly! did you paint the walls or were they like that before? such a lovely array of photos.

joleen · November 09, 2006 at 04:00 PM

adorable :) and I'm very envious that you have time to play with your new place. I'm sitting in my new little flat trying to get lots of uni work done and all I want to do is unpack and find places for all of my things. Penelope Pirate is one of the only things who's found a place though :) She's right at home, good luck with settling into your new home just like she has.

Oh, you already seem so much happier being where you want to be. Your place looks so cute! I know what you mean, I have to have my home be "right" before all is well with my art and craft! I am glad you are settling in!

I love your home. Since I'm relatively new to your blog, I've missed out on the moving part - you are in Virginia now? Anyway, your place is adorable. Congratulations!

whereohwhere did you get that lamp? (i am also indulging in the eye candy that is your place - a fellow suitcase-lover - i've been on the lookout for travelling suitcases like that) But the lamp. It's... marvelous. My husband and I have been searching for the perfect lamp, and I'm always a little dumbfounded when other people manage to find one. Hm... can I ask where you found yours?

emily · November 09, 2006 at 11:46 PM

Lovely pictures and glad to hear you're settling in. :)

Your place is already looking so beautiful! I think you're smart to try to get it as perfect as possible before getting back to work. I find that I never get quite the same mojo after the initial burst; in fact, my house is proof of that. Anyway, so glad that you're enjoying your new home.

meg · November 10, 2006 at 07:04 AM

I love the colour of your bedroom, your apartment is lovely. Glad your settling in.

Great pictures! You've given me some ideas for my own place. :)

Marilyn · November 10, 2006 at 11:16 AM

I'm glad your couch finally arrived! Do you want to switch houses with me? Come on, you know what you REALLY want is 1970s wood panelling in every room!!!

sara k. · November 10, 2006 at 11:43 AM

your house is so cute! i love the color of the walls, they match your paintings! the green and blue are just so pretty... *jealous*

w+g · November 10, 2006 at 01:50 PM

More please... the pictures are stunning. I'll be moving in with the beau this month and the anxiety is overwhelming, but looking at your pictures allows me to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Kristina · November 10, 2006 at 06:43 PM

I love your blog and how fast you tidy up and pretty your new place. That quilt is amazing, the paint colors dandy and all your little dainties charming. Might I ask you do come redecorate my place:) I am in love with your embroidery banner. Is this a treasure you found or something you made? Sometimes I leave your blog up for inspiration when I am crafting just so the image of the animals and flowers keep me company.

Nancy · November 10, 2006 at 10:21 PM

I know you are super busy I am a big fan and was just wondering where the image of the little girl looking out her window at the bird, over your couch came from. I really like that picture.
