Tejo Remy. (Dutch, born 1960). 'You Can't Lay Down Your Memory' Chest of Drawers. 1991.
There is so much to be grateful for today. For instance, this chest of drawers is in the world, and when I stage my MOMA heist, with Clive Owen at my side, this is the only thing we'll take. And then we'll fly out of there in that bizarre green helicopter that they've got suspended between the floors.
Aren't these drawers just amazing? If the heist somehow doesn't work out (and it certainly will) I am brainstorming a way to assemble a smaller version for myself. Love. I love drawers.
Second on the grateful list is that the weather is absolutely knock-down-drag-out beautiful today. It's in the mid/high 70's,sunny, no humidity, and I am thrilled. When that 110 degree nonsense was going on last week, I started to attempt to bargain with the weather powers-that-be. Maybe my brain was overheated. Who knows, but I think that it worked...at least for a little bit.
Third, there are hedgehogs in the world, in addition to whimsical chests-of-drawers:
The print variety,
and the tote variety (in le shop!).
Wonderful, wonderful weekends all around!
xo,
emily

The chest of boxes is very cool. Have you looked at much of Dali's women with drawers? I did an entire series on them in college. I think you would like them! I know I love them.

I think it would be fun to create a piece of furniture similar to your beloved Remy chest. You could go to refurbishing shops and see if they have any old cabinets or drawers and then sand them down and paint them. In my mind I see a room with a wall lined with mis-matched and mis-shapen drawers all with little tags on them saying things like ribbons, photos of hedgehogs, found notes etc. A wall of inspiration each with their own drawer.

thank you, emily.... for bringing the moma to those of us not close enough to visit, for embracing your creative spirit and valuing and appreciating it at such a young age, and for a great featured seller interview at etsy. you gave me a lot to think about and made me sit up straight and proud. rock on.

I love that drawer assembly too. It makes several appearances in my inspiration books. I have been collecting drawers to do a vertical stacked version of it.
have a beautiful day.

Gasp.
I know where I'm going...
To the thrift store.
To buy things with drawers. Most importantly, I think I need a drawer from a card catologue. I've always wanted a card catalogue.
And a Time Card Machine... but thats a whole other bag of worms and cats.
And a big piece of strip metal.

i have just discovered your blog a few days ago, and was compelled to write when i saw the picture of the Remy chests...which i love, and have been carrying around a beat-up photo that i took of them for years. there are so many things that you write about that i love - so, thanks! for being a like-minded soul and providing inspiration.
