Sunday: a few small things

August 06, 2006 · The Magic Sock (A Random Assortment)

A few little things to show today, with just a few little words:

Fabric

My adorable order from the adorable Kitty Craft, which took so very long to get here, that I almost forgot about it. The fabric she sells is just so blasted cute...it's worth ever penny, because it's all so special. The shop is closed right now, because she's moving to the UK, so all of you UK folks are lucky and will get your packages in the blink of an eye!

We made these cutie pie cupcakes yesterday, in honor of Lee (Elizabeth's great boyfriend who I love) visiting this weekend:

Their Devil's food with the amazing ol' Magnolia Buttercream icing that I always use, because it's so darn perfect. I think that the color scheme must've been inspired by Sara's mod cupcake cards! So cute.

This is a little sneak of something that came in the mail Friday (they are so flipping wonderful!).
The ink is a beautiful chocolate brown, which looks really great (thank you, Sarah, for helping me decide that brown was indeed the way to go for these!).

And finally, speaking of my lovely Sarah, this is a picture from yesterday's hanging-around-the-house afternoon, in which she is holding one of my favorite possessions in the world:

My great grandmother, Nonnie (who, incidentally passed away on the same day I was born, February 13th, 1983) made this, and its so beautiful with all of the little embroidered creatures on it. I just love it.

I've got a new batch of duncies in the works, which hopefully I'll be able to show off tomorrow. Meanwhile, I've got some chinese food to eat, and some Detroit Cobras to see (for free! hooray!)

I am so hoping that those adorable hedgies are on tote bags! I have been carrying my dunce girl tote everywhere & was in fact just showing it off to my grandmother! Everyone is jealous :) And I cannot believe how YOUNG you are! Ah, to be born in the 80s. Hope your weekend was fabulous!

Emily! Thanks for more props! You have the same birthday as my grandmother. She was the most amazing woman ever... She would have liked you.

On the weekend I met a cool little chick at my cousins 18th. As she was leaving we told her to stuff her pockets with cupcakes, but she didn't have room. We quickly wrapped some up and as her mum was putting her little brother into the car I stuck them to Bridget in the back seat. The smile on her dial was brillaint. Little kids AND cupcakes rock.

Now I really must go make cupcakes! The only problem is that my Mister loves to bake so right now the fridge has mint chocolate cream cheese brownies in it and blueberry pie. This isn't really a problem - except for my waistline.

I made cupcakes with my little Zoe last week and the big cheesy grin with chunks of cupcake in the gaps was priceless. If you see the pictures with the cheesy grin on my website you would completely understand. She is such a ham. I will have to make our cupcake fun a regular event. Next time I will definately get pictures. I was charging that pesky battery at the time!

Hey! I've been reading your blog for a while - can't remember how I got here - I think through a link from someone who had bought a piece of your art (which is beautiful, BTW)...

The pillow that your Nonnie made is BEAUTIFUL! That kind of embroidery was very popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s. I remember that I received a little embroidery kit to embroider a mouse and bluebird, probably as a birthday present... which, coincidentally is also February 13th! But not the same year, I'm 9 years older!

oh my god! My heart skipped a beat when I saw that pillow. My mother embroidered the EXACT, really the EXACT, same one for my grandmother over thirty years ago (it has an awsome catipillar in the lower left corner not in the picture, right?). Just last Thursday I was bugging my mom to let me "borrow" ;) it to figure out the patterns. How lucky you are!
