As I mentioned earlier, my darling friend Jenny is visiting Sarah and me right now, and we couldn't be happier. It gives us both an excuse to do...oh, lots of things that you really have to twist my arm to do. Like spend the day at MOMA, looking at the Dada show and making the rounds. I like to think of MOMA as the "greatest hits" of art in a way. It just feels nice to visit Robert Rauschenberg and Marc Chagall sometimes and remember what it felt like to have those first brushes with famous, famous artists, and fall in love as a little girl with people that seemed so special and like I was maybe the only person that knew the secret of how special they are.
As far as the Dada show, it was wonderful. It was a little less silly than I would've hoped, but it was huge and expansive and it reminded me of artists that I had forgotten about that I really like, such as Hannah Hoch, a collage genius. These is one of her images:
We spent the remainder of yesterday shopping, finished it off with some off-the-cuff Mac N' Cheese we invented, which was good, if a little bit sharp. Of course, come 10 pm, all was quiet for Project Runway watching....I think that this challenge was really fun and good. And damn, could Michael have had any more of a perfect model to do Pam-f*ing-Grier? We had a feeling he was going to win, and were so happy that he did!
This sweater came in the mail from across the sea yesterday:
I don't think words can express how much I adore this sweater. I coveted it in the Boden summer catalog, and then was thrilled to find it one sale, very on sale, on their lovely website.
Some pretty fabrics came in the mail today, so I think I'm going to do a bit of stitching, and return to spending time with Jenny. As Ms. Alicia said today of her mother-in-law: "When she's here, we always have a lovely blend of doing lots of things — and not doing lots of things". For instance, this afternoon, we went to a nice little lunch, visited the flagship Barnes and Noble store (the 4 story one!) in Union Square, and saw "Little Miss Sunshine" (for the second time, for me!).
I love houseguests. Especially one as lovely as this one.
