Sometimes I think about dressing in terms of a story or a place/environment. Monday, I thought I would assemble these three kind of unexpected pieces (silk blue slip-dress, gravelly knitted camisole, and silver vintage slip) and see how it worked...
And voila! By their combined transformative powers, I became very fairy-like indeed.
Or at least like a Medieval maid.
But the kind with liquid eyeliner.

That is ADORABLE.

OH! I wanted to say... you sorta look like Snow white! Now you just need your 7 dwarfs!
I say that in a good way - I HEART Snowwhite!
and liquid eyeliner rocks too.

Did you happen to knit that vest? It's adorable.
I have many dyed vintage slips that are just starting to come out of the closet.
Still a bit snowy in the Northwest.

if it weren't for my lack of years, a driver's license, and money, i would totally buy/style outfits like this :)
looks awesome of course... you give a girl great ideas, about the future and whatnot. thank you.

I was lurking around on this blog a couple days ago and was completely inspired by the whole slip thing and realize that my slip wardrobe is severely lacking. Today I finally went shopping and bought a bunch of vintage ones I plan to dye and decorate in various ways.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Love it! Thanks for sharing your cool outfits with us. They really inspire me to try and dress a little better every day.
I work in the social services field doing home visits with new moms. In this job, it's REALLY tempting to just roll out of bed and pull some clothes over my head without putting too much thought into it. It's like, "Who cares? Certainly not my moms and babies."
Not to get all mushy, but this blog helps me remember that putting together fun outfits isn't a waste of time--it's a way of treating myself and expressing myself, which can be very easily forgotten. So, hey, thanks :)

EMILY stop making me jealous of you and your wardrobe!
jen · April 24, 2008 at 09:54 PM
wow, gorgeous!! I love the way you think about clothes.
This has nothing to do with this post, but I know in other posts you have mentioned coffee or tea-dying articles of clothing to make them look older. Is there any chance that you might be willing to do a how-to post on that, so the rest of us out here could benefit from your craftiness and creativity? I would love to dye a few things like that, but I really have no idea how to go about doing that. It's just a thought, I know you are very busy with many things. :)

...I too, am in love with your style.
Your layers are adorable...I'm the same and wear mostly dresses/skirts :)
You always have great ideas in the wardrobe department...

"Sometimes I think about dressing in terms of a story or a place/environment."
In that sense I think that fashion has a lyricism all its own, as the words of certain authors have a lyricism to them. I can certainly see elements of story in the way that you place things together. I think this kind of purposeful and inspirational pairing of items then becomes art in its own way.
