I'm hard at work again...I love it when my brain feels like an idea factory (which, let me tell you, isn't all the time). I'm toying around with ideas for stationary, the sheet kind as well as the postcard kind we all know I'm so fond of. I've also got a new tea-towel print curing in the dryer, and sketches for new paintings waiting to be realized.
The "Hello birds" design above is for a postcard, but I think I may use the wee birds in a sheet stationary set, too. I love them...they remind me of 1960's + 1970's children's books (and therefore remind me of Meg).

I'm yearning for some of your art in a small form suitable for scrapbooking and art journals. Always excited to see new goodies!

Why, yes, it does remind me of the 1960's, particularly The Beatles' song, "Hello Goodbye." Hello hello! I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello!
...Er... Cheers!

Your art makes me happy! I both gave and received it for Christmas 07 and it was the favorite gift by far! Brava!

Hello, love the birds!
My husband gave me your "Alice in Wonderland" print set for Christmas and it is fantastic! I can not wait to get them framed and up on my walls.

The birds look cute. A little different than all the other black apple stuff...great to start new beginnings in a new year :)

This would be super cute on a tote bag... =) Very sweet design. It remind me of a book I had when I was little called "Benjy and the Barking Bird" by Margaret Bloy Graham =)

Green finch and linnet bird, nightingale, blackbird, tell me how to sing...
your bird cages remind me of Johanna in her bedroom...beckoning, beckoning...

Isn't it always so exciting when the ol' bean starts pumping out ideas again?! :) I just love your little design... it is *so sweet*!! I would be so excited if you made it into stationary... hehe!! (I've been on a stationary-acquisition binge lately!)
Happy New Year, Emily!! May 2008 bring you even more success and artful creativity!

I can't wait for the tea towels...maybe another cinnamon and sugar on the way? I would love a matching set! Sounds like you are making a great start to 2008!

I am obsessed with stationery and I believe Black Apple stationery will only feed the addiction! Those birdcages would be too cute on a notepad or note cards.
Melissa · January 04, 2008 at 03:59 AM
I love those birdies! Can't wait to see the stationary when it's ready!
Kristin · January 04, 2008 at 10:19 AM
hello hello little birds. I can imagine the big room with bird cages and palms everywhere, and your funny colorful birds chirping hello hello hello. It would be nice to open all that cages and windows. all the birds flying outside and chirping hello world. i would like to talk with the red one.

I love it - verrrrry cute! And i look forward to reading your blog in 2008! I just bought that fashion magazine from canada (they send it all the way to belgium) and it was so funny: i went to Rotterdam to visit an exhibition (you would have loved) about design and surrealism. The night before i read about Elsa Schiaparreli in the magazine and saw it in real life the day after (and blogged about it: http://karlitashop.blogspot.com/2008/01/strange-things-to-end-2007.html ) So thanks, it is always a joy to read your blog :)

Ooohh! I love those! So much! Can't tell you how much!
Eva · January 05, 2008 at 05:17 AM
That is a seriously great design. It reminds me of my favorite blanket, which I bought for the exact same reason: it reminded me of 60s children's books!
heather · January 05, 2008 at 12:20 PM
I just had to comment today! I just love, love, love my 'elsie w/ grey bunny' print that i purchase from you. I have her in my kitchen & i adore her. My daughter is an avid reader, so I also bought the 'bookstack girl' for her. Love your work & I want more!
Will you be making more like 'elsie'?
Deborah · January 05, 2008 at 04:15 PM
Can't wait to see the birds in their finished splendor :) Lovely design!
