The Black Apple › Inside A Black Apple

Where the narwhal lives...

November 11, 2007 · Artsy (Mine)

We're back, and in full-steam-ahead mode!
I mean, right now we are both working 10-12 hour days most days...which is happy and exciting but also hard. Josiah is taking on some new responsibilities at Black Apple headquarters, so that will hopefully mean much more time for me to be making + painting.
'Cause I miss it fiercely, and it doesn't feel right to not have daily making-time anymore.

I've been working on this new piece for the last week or so, and I was able to finish it up last night:

Wonders
Wonders Never Cease   16"x20"x2     Acrylic on canvas

Wonders2

Classic happy/sad dichotomy...my favorite.

It'll be part of an update later this week (probably Friday!). More on that tomorrow, when I'll decide all the particulars. Happy Sunday, applet pals!

Beautiful!

I know what it's like to do all the other things and not focus on arts & craft...I'm happy for you...your paintings rock and that's what you should be doing all day.

Ooh I just love her expression!

I hear you regarding needing that creative time aside from the practical stuff. When I have to do all of that other stuff it makes for a cranky artist around the house. My husband cleaned ,mopped and took my little one out today so I could focus on my dolls. I blasted my Cocteau Twins and sipped my Shriaz and sculpted..
Your painting is wonderful. I love how her hand just gently skims the water~very dreamlike..)

Hola Darling Emily,
Oh, how I love sea creatures!! Happy creative time... I get kind of sad when I can't have creative time regularly. Sad and mad. So Yipppeee, to creative time!! xoxoxo

Beautiful Emily, I love the colors in that sky. And narwhals! I love how mystical and special they look.

blair · November 11, 2007 at 10:13 PM

Emily, wow. I felt like your paintings started to take on a new feel after you did The Quiet Room. This new painting falls in that same category (For lack of a better word) and I love it. It's really quite beautiful.

This painting reminds me of the dark waters of the ecuadorian rain forest where we saw pink dolphins.

Exciting to have such a large painting coming up in the next update!

space elephant · November 12, 2007 at 10:58 AM

So beautiful. I do hope you update this week but I do hope you chose a day other than Fridays as I teach all day and can't even try to buy!

moya · November 12, 2007 at 11:23 AM

Shows how well you must be doing with your cottage industry if you need Josiah to do the boring bits! Well done girl. Love the painting :)

cassie · November 12, 2007 at 11:25 AM

Where did you come up with the idea for a Narwhal?

www.projectblancoyd.typepad.com · November 12, 2007 at 02:00 PM

So pretty! I love the colors! I'm glad you're able to have the "creative time" again... I know I always feel like something is horribly amiss when I can't carve out regular time to do something creative! :)

Casey · November 12, 2007 at 02:04 PM

Who doesn't want to have a magical whale friend?!? Love it!

tiffany · November 12, 2007 at 02:08 PM
