Whilst re-hauling about a million files and working on the shop images today, I ran across this little drawing that I did two or so years ago, and it made me chuckle:
I'm relieved to say that I don't think that I'm a sickie, but I am laying a bit low this week.
PS: Thanks so much for the nice commiseration about lack of sleep/jerks that shout and cavort outside ones home when one is trying to sleep at the normal sleeping hour of 4:00 am...your advice and sweetness is always so appreciated!

Glad you are not getting sick. I used to live in Boston near Northeastern University. There were so many loud nights of drunken students on the apartment roof across the street. I used to do a few things that helped:
1. disposable ear plugs (those orange ones at the drug store)
2. white noise machine or tv on a snowy channel turned up to drown out their voices
3. bathroom fan, room fan
4. sometimes an anonymous call to 911 doesn't hurt if it gets really bad
Good luck to you.
Best,
Susan

Miss Lovely Black Apple, I enjoy running into old drawings. It feels like running into an old friend... Your girl is so cute.
On the sleep note again, not to harp, but, Mr. Lovee and I went to stay at a wonderful hotel in a charming town 5 hours away. We wanted a get away. All night kids ran through this lovely romantic hotel, drunk up and down the halls, screaming. There was a wedding party that so did not belong in this setting. They were even harsh and rude at breakfast. Then again, the second night. I was soo angry I wanted to scream. Mr. Lovee went in the hall and told them a bunch of "f" words. And you know what they yelled back at him, Be nice sir. And we were like, be nice?? Be nice at 3 a.m. when we are paying $300 a night for a hotel... It was bad. So, I felt your pain to a small extent... I want to hide under the covers and read... I long for it.. As a matter of fact, I might go to bed now. 7 p.m. and read... xxxooo

Strangeness is going all around these days, I'm afraid. Lots of not-quite-sick-at-least-not-sick-enough-to-stay-home-just-icky-enough-to-make-you-hate-your-day. Personally, I think it's the summer. It's gone on way too long, been way too hot, and generally worn out its welcome.
Hope you're not-quite-sickieness goes away soon!

I do hope that you feel better. Adorable drawing. Isn't it fun to come across things like this? It's like having a reunion with .. yourself! haha!
Might I suggest a sound therapy machine, that makes natural sounds like rain, ocean, summery nights, and such. It just might help you block out the other sounds you don't want to hear.
Love your blog, your new fan,

I love that color! I actually just had my business cards printed in a similar shade..
LindsayLuu · September 05, 2007 at 10:48 AM
ugh, I'm STILL sleep deprived, but I'm glad you're doing better! We don't have drunks to deal with, just the heat and some strange non-sleeping-type-malaise. *sigh* You know, if it did go on, you could consider contacting your police station (not 911), to ask what they would recommend for drunken disturbances. I bet they could help you out! =)

Glad to hear your not getting sick. I love the drawing so sweet.

Oh I can just picture your sketch with a half dozen raskley chipmunks splashing in a pool, with her thoughtful bubble saying that they forgot their manners... tuck in tight and sleep well.

the fan advice is great....my daughter still sleeps with a fan to cover outside noises.
reflecting and looking at how far you have come can sometimes be the lift in spirit we need. take care.

Haven't commented in awhile but sorry to hear you were under the weather. Hope you're doing much much better now.
I love when I come across my old drawings. It's nice to see how far I've come and how my ideas have grown (also to see how my inspirations and muses have too).

Such a sweet little sketch. :)
My favorite drawing of yours, however, will always be the one with the gorgeous Pablo Neruda quote, "Love is so short, forgetting is so long."
I'm glad to hear you're not sick after all. Just make it a cuddly, sleepy, safe week.
Christy · September 06, 2007 at 07:50 AM
a) cuteness at that sketch!
b) earplugs are definitely the go
c) glass of red wine for added sleepy attributes!
sandy · September 06, 2007 at 08:21 AM
That is a lovely sketch! I second the fan/white noise machine suggestion--trucks pass by my bedroom taking an illegal short cut every night from 3 am-7 am, invariably waking me, so I know how you feel (I've even used the ac when I don't need it for the white noise). I wish people would be more considerate of others--drunken revellers perhaps are inconsiderate by definition but we need to educate people out of this kind of selfishness (sorry, I'm on my soapbox). I know voices are tougher to whiten out with noise, but it is worth a try. I am sorry you are going through this. Also, hot milk has sedative properties--wine is actually a stimulant after the sedative effect wears off. Plus a warm purring kitty always helps :)

I like Susan's advice and the drawing very much. What a cute Aliceyish friend.

Sweet sketch. Best wishes for a good night's sleep!

The drawing is lovely. But Greta is the one haunting me! Any chance that she may have a sister? I so wish I had been around when the original was available. *sigh*
Try to get some sleep Miss Emily. :)

Us the anger energy to create a new little piece of art. Take from the situation. Paint one of your beautiful little girls with all those drunks (maybe painted as a noisy animal) in a fish bowl with a huge rubber cork so the girl can't hear them.
Or be totally crazy and paint a girl looming over the pool full of drunks with a electric cables in hands and a menacing face ready to electrocute them. Not really your style though.
Anyway, hello from London and i hope you are getting back to normal. I love your blog.
