Prettying up the walls some more

July 12, 2007 · Artsy (Other Folks'), Domestic

Lately I've been scouring Etsy and other places for more art for the apartment. Like everyone, I'm extremely particular, so it's a tough job (especially sorting through the Etsy art category!). I feel like it (more art) is the only thing that's missing...clusters and clusters of art.

So, I've got a bunch of pieces off at the framers, and some waiting for frames that I can handle (standard sized stuff), and I'm rearranging some of the work that was already in my home into new clusters. Over the couch, we have this new constellation:

From left to right, we have the most hilarious + wonderful shadowbox from Deadbird, a pretty E from a fancy vintage font book I acquired recently, one of my pal Ashley G's  pieces(an original painting!), a framed Yoshitomo Nara postcard (it looks so flippin' good in that frame...it just kills me), this beautiful ceramic plaque with a cast of teeth emerging from the center that I bought from a local artist at her exit show this past spring, the little oval jacket drawing by me, a Seonna Hong print that always catches my eye and makes me happy, and finally, a really pretty J from the aforementioned fancy font book.

Oh! And the winners of that last little postcard contest have been emailed, they are a trio of nice gals named Ann, Lorna, and Stephanie. Thank you SO much, everyone, for playing along! I have tons of new potential books, and feel very happy to hear books that I already love so much (Lolita, Mrs. Dalloway, Geek Love, Little, Big etc. as well as many of those great children's books get some props).

I hope that the week is wrapping up nicely for everyone! Happy Thursday!

Such a nice idea. One of these days, I'm going to get around to making my own etsy constellation. :)

Your wall looks great, I especially love the original painting. I also have a set of Yoshitomo Nara's postcards, I love his work.

Love this. After moving in with the boyfriend, I am slowly working on getting my little constellations together. It's so hard to get it just right, especially when trying to mix personal photography in. You've done a wonderful job.

I love the ceramic teeth one. Who is the artist? Oddly my two main collections are art & teeth. That piece has combined both so well. Would love to know her name! The cluster looks great so far BTW. I've never been able to pull off a cluster of art well, so good luck!

Too too cute! I love all your selections! Wish you could come help me with my walls.

Looks great! When the Apple Balloons print arrives it's going right in to a constellation in my kitchen.

Clusters are good. I once hung a collection of five photographic prints and posters of various sizes together on the wall, stepped back and said, "Oh. Wow."

I hadn't even noticed until that point that I had five large framed pictures of bridges.

I suppose because I bought them over a couple of years and around the world and had never seen them all together.

Your compositions are beautiful, as is the colour of your wall! I love it, where did you find paint that colour, or did you mix it? Hi by the way, nice to meet you. I just found your blog and have been reading for far too long!

Lovely Miss Emily!

tiffany · July 13, 2007 at 10:29 AM

Very sweet looking clusters indeed. My bedroom studio has a wall slowly being covered by art mine and others'. Beautiful inspiration!

I am going to be prettying up one of my walls tomorrow with your fabulous glittery wolfgirl print. I am putting it in my hall above my little bookcase of favourite books, which means I will have to walk past it every time I leave the house. I'm predicting that this will have a profound effect on my life because I'll frequently leave the house with a big wolfgirl induced smile on my face. Who knows what new opportunities will fall into my lap because of it?! (I'm sure good things happen when you're smiling, yes?) I can hardly wait!

Laura · July 13, 2007 at 11:42 AM

Wow- that Nara postcard does look amazing framed! Love your art constellation- it's wonderful!

Claire · July 13, 2007 at 02:43 PM

I've been on an art kick myself but my problem is I buy the prints but forget about the frames. One day!

Marilyn · July 13, 2007 at 04:38 PM

I am so so so in love with your new wall art! I actually have Yoshitomo Nara's "Slight Fever" tattooed on my back (which you can see in the about me on my blog). Your work reminds me of his, but takes us to a more fanciful and romantic place. Have you ever considered getting your own work as a tattoo? I think it would be amazing. You blow me away as usual...

I love your arrangement here and all of your beautiful artwork and even the wall color is delightful!

Kate · July 19, 2007 at 11:35 PM

Just thought I'd also add another artist to check out: Kendra Binney from Portland, Oregon. Also, does anyone know of any online shops to purchass old frames?
