The Renegade Report, Part 1

June 21, 2007 · Artsy (Mine), Craftsy (Mine), Hurrahs!

I'm back!
We got in late last night, tired and dirty, and now we are putting the house to rights. Everything is such a mess (studio, laundry, bedroom) and there is so much to be put away...and I just really wanna make stuff. I want to sew. Maybe this weekend.

Anyway, Brooklyn was great (visiting is wonderful, as long as I know I don't have to live there). Renegade was FANTASTIC, due in no small part to having:

A.) A rock-star spot at the fair, and amazing neighbors, in two of my favorite crafty pals the adorable Heidi (and cute fam) + that saucy minx, Kate Black. I felt very comforted by their presence.

B.) The best two helpers there could be.

and
C.) All of the amazing fans! You applets came out in full effect, and I felt very loved.

Here is my little tent/setup (photos are from the first day):

The whole-tent-view.

The table with originals + The Sophie Dolls + etc.

My print display (very cute, no?) and some tees (the ones on the right side are the new ones in kids and adults sizes!)

The doll family + my helpers just after set up.
(Thank you so much, Sarah and Josiah, for being the best elves ever this weekend. It would've been an impossible task without such good help!)

I was really, really happy with how everything looked...the display, etc.
I was nervous about everything, but it all went super smoothly, and we nearly sold out on Saturday (the first day!!!). I was legitimately worried we would have nothing for the second day of the show. We did, albeit a very scaled-down version.

I cannot justify any more glued-to-the-computer time while the aparement and studio is in shambles, so I'll be back tomorrow with part two of my report. Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who came out, said hi, chatted, and took things home with them.
You made my first Renegade a huge + fun success!

I so wish we could have come (but the trip from Oregon is a bit prohibitive). By the way, I am super duper excited about your new tees :) Good luck cleaning up and coming down from the experience :)

Vanessa V · June 21, 2007 at 06:09 PM

What a treat and a half it was to meet the delightful Emily on Saturday near closing time, as the rains began to die down and revealed a darling, albeit heavily-shopped booth. We traveled three hours or so to browse and buy, but also to meet our etsy & blog-land faves... how silly and shy I felt when i realized that i was nervous about actually doing so. Like meeting a long-lost cousin and a proper celebrity all-in-one. *squee!* Thank you, dear girl, for not making us feel at all like the giant dorks we were. :)

karaalison · June 21, 2007 at 06:12 PM

Hilary Glime · June 21, 2007 at 09:35 PM

Everything looked awesome! Are you going to come to Chicago?

Donna · June 21, 2007 at 10:40 PM

Emily, you were like a rock star! I'm so thrilled to have met you in person and now wearing one of your design. I wish I could have stayed longer to look at your dolls in person but my 4 year old boy was so tired and cranky. I had to take him home for a nap. Can't wait for next year's Renegade! Congrats on your success!

Sonya · June 21, 2007 at 11:00 PM

Did I read this right in reading it was your first Renegade? Anyway, I'm glad it was a big success and it was SO great meeting you. You and Kate did luck out with a terrific spot right by the entrance, you can't go wrong with that!

Glad to hear you're back safely and that it was such a success.

Rhonda · June 22, 2007 at 11:10 AM

Emily, I was thrilled to meet you in person even though my son thought it bordered on stalking. I told him you would be charming and you were. Your booth was adorable and I'm looking forward to a shop update so I can get a tee shirt (you were out of the size I needed).

Elizkat · June 22, 2007 at 11:22 AM

When I stopped by your booth it was so crowded I hope everything went well and you sold a lot. Your booth looked great and you seemed to be getting tons of feed back. Congrats! the day was beautiful and it was a good renegade.

Jessica · June 22, 2007 at 03:42 PM

Oh I wish, wish, wish I was there. I think that next year, I will plan a NY trip around Renegade. Congratulations! You deserve all the great things coming your way. BTW, I love Sarah's dress and Josiah's tee.

If you ever get the chance to come to England, you should set up a table at the market we have here 3 times a week. It's in a cute market town called Hitchin and I'm there every week buying yarn, fabric, fruits and veg. You're artwork would really sell.
