"There's a world where I can go
and tell my secrets to
In my room, in my room..."
Oh, you Beach Boys.
I think that my bedroom is finally exactly the way that I want it! We brought this low chest of drawers home yesterday, and it finally provided the last bit of much needed storage in there. And as romantic as it might've been to just have my books stacked willy-nilly on the floor, it is much better this way!
I love that quilt so crazily-much. Especially the red/white scalloped trim. Actually, it's all about the scalloped trim...and all of the insanely tiny hand-stitches that shame me and my modern ways.
Aahhh...the books off the floor. Still romantically stacked, but off the floor. And go ahead and laugh at my oh-so-goth copy of The Bell Jar. I am pretty proud, however, of our vintage pulp copies of both William Faulkner's Sanctuary and Mr. Nabokov's Lolita.
A recently framed photograph of mine that we hung, from my art school photo-maven days (and a pretty little Art + Ghosts piece from the lovely Lou). The image was inspired by my Victorian undergarment/scandalous-old-photos obsession.
My beautiful antique, spindly chair + a recently hung poster for one of the most beatiful films in one corner.
And I know you've been missing Mr. Goose.
I'm on cloud nine. Especially with these feet around:
Now to tackle the hurricane-damage that has swept my studio!

ABSOLTELY LOVE IT! I love, loooove the color of your walls! Tiffany blue. Especially with the red and white. It's all so very pretty and yummy, just like you. :)

What a lovely shade of blue-green! Your quilt is just amazing, and where ever did you get that adorable Mr. Goose!!? : )

It's a wonderful feeling when you know that your bedroom is j u s t r i g h t. especially when it is not only the result of cute dressers and artwork, but because you have just the right person to share it with ;)

i share the goddard love. i've got a bande a part poster.
i do love that quilt. i know it's ebay so i've come to terms with the fact that i can not have it but really it is one of the nicest ones i've seen.
ooh and i am curious about the birdie pillow covers/sheets...
my bedroom also serves as my studio so it gets a bit untidy shall we say in there but i try to keep it in check.

looking good! and i'm digging the stacked books. might steal that idea...
(i think i have the same copy of the bell jar!)
meg · April 25, 2007 at 04:23 PM
lovely! it's been a long, long time since we haven't had stacks of books everywhere... on the piano, on the floor, on the floor on the other side of the room, on the floor in the bedroom, not to mention the bookshelves.
yoshitomo nara! I love his pictures.
by the way, is it weird if Sylvia Plath is my very favorite author?
she's amazing.
Dave · April 25, 2007 at 04:47 PM
have you read the bell jar yet? It's one of the most painfully beautiful books, especially knowing a bit of her life and how it turned out. we have a wonderful red hardcover copy we found at a thrift store with that same font on the spine. seems to fit it somehow.

Lovely. I collect multiple editions of Alice, as well; It's my travel souvenir, in whatever language is spoken where I am. (Didn't get one in Khmer, though.) As for books... books are like kudzu around here; I've given up trying to control them. I think they hold moonlit soirees while I sleep.
Alison Whittington · April 25, 2007 at 05:37 PM
Lovely room! I could never keep all my books under control and "gave up" and have stacks of them. Now I believe it is beautiful seeing all the books-to-be-read and favorite books in stacks.
Love the colors, too. And the low dresser, and the quilt...and...well everything!
YAY!

Beautiful room!! I love the colors in your room. I feel like I need to send you my goose I painted on a plaque. If you want it just let me know! I would be more than happy to give it to you. It's pretty much the same colors as your bedroom. :)

Lovely room. My favorite picture is of "those feet". Candid and expressive and says that "a partner is there to share" I looked at storm damage to my work room last night too. Wish my studio was really ready now.
teresa atkinson · April 26, 2007 at 10:46 AM
It is all so incredibly lovely Emily. I have always loved and been facinated by that shade of blue and red together. I find those colors in the most amazing places... in every kind of art from Indian to Chinese and the cool places in between. Just gorgeous!
tiffany · April 26, 2007 at 11:26 AM
I bought that copy of the Bell Jar in a used book store and when I flipped the pages, a pressed rose fell out.
I love the combination of turquoise and red.
KiWi · April 26, 2007 at 11:50 AM
I am loving your room! That is my project this summer...to finish my room. I know what I want, well, I have some IDEAS, but I'm still compiling the things I want. You've inspired me to get the lead out!! lol
Rhonda · April 26, 2007 at 12:45 PM
Wow, I really really like your room. You manage to incorporate so many small details (books, little wall art, shelf decor) without making it feel cluttered - I wish I could do that! And I loooove the blue!
Paula · April 26, 2007 at 01:04 PM
great room! beautiful quilt!!!
ruthie · April 26, 2007 at 03:40 PM

Melissa Crowe · April 26, 2007 at 03:59 PM
So lovely. And are those buttons along the shelf's edge?! And such a beautiful quilt (already established that) and gorgeous color. So lovely (a reprise).
Beth · April 26, 2007 at 04:39 PM
Ooh, pretty!
Please share the paint name/number/info so I can paint my room that color too!
Jennifer Pimm · April 26, 2007 at 07:15 PM
HEllloooooo. Missed you! It has been way way too long! A treat with a snippet of the most loveliest room. I have the most amazing fabric covered old, gold edged copy of Nabokov's Lolita. I treasure books. I have been known to spend small fortunes on many loads full of books at a time. Especially the old ones...I adore your collection. Piles and Piles of books are reason to be over the moon! xxo, Vanessa

I am so excited to see your print up there on the wall, Emily!
I don't know if you remember, but I was oh-so-lucky to receive my own copy of this print from you back in our fabulous photo school days.
I just wanted you to know that, I too, have it hung on my wall in my bedroom- I just LOVE it...and get compliments on it ALL the time.
I'm so happy that I have such a wonderful constant reminder of you!
Emily Dickinson · April 26, 2007 at 08:30 PM
I think I trully love Mr Goose. The scalloped edges of the quilt run a close second :)
Alison · April 27, 2007 at 07:02 AM
absolutely adorable! i looked at the first photo and something seemed out of place...the nightstand? the lamp? and then it hit me, it was all reversed! i guess we are used to seeing it all in the background from your mirror. silly me...beautiful nonetheless!!!
carolyn · April 27, 2007 at 06:29 PM

anita · April 29, 2007 at 03:56 PM
I'm a quilter, don't ya know, and I love, love that quilt! It must be some version of a Dresden Plate block, and you are right the red and white scalloped border just makes it!
Julie · April 30, 2007 at 04:21 PM
