And now we are 24

Hello lovelies! Thank you for the sweet well-wishings that have already been sent my way today, February 13th, the day that I am 24 instead of 23. I really liked being 23, even though it was a tumultuous year that I'm not-so-sad to leave behind, but I'm feeling a bit resistant to the change...I've realized that I much prefer being odd number-ages. I was sad when I turned 22 to leave 21 behind...
But I do have 25 to look forward to. And 27.
I just have to tough it out through the "even years".

The weather is really gross and rainy here today, which makes me a little sad, but it was really beautiful yesterday (and hopefully will be for Valentine's Day, as well!). Josiah has promised to help me re-arrange the studio and make it more work-fun (hooray!). All-in-all, I'm having a nice quiet day (breakfast-in-bed, a little bit of errand running, etc.) which I think will be capped off with sushi & friends & drinks tonight!

xoxo

A very merry little birthday, to you, yes to you!!!! I used to think that my odd year b-days were my unlucky years. Now I love them and I just embrace them all. And now, yes I like the odd ones too. Maybe because I am an odd one??? Lots of hugs this happy day. xxo Vanessa

happy birthday! i turned 34 last thursday & it had me thinking back to 24...which literally seems like yesterday.
i hope you enjoy your evening & Valentine's too!

rachzel · February 13, 2007 at 05:38 PM

Aw Happy birthday!! Hope it's the best year yet!

Mary Contrary · February 13, 2007 at 05:40 PM

Happy Birthday! I'm going to be 28 at the end of the month and now you've got me dividing my life into even and odd years to see if there is a pattern. Firstborn came just before 24 so that was a great year and second born at 26 so maybe I'm the opposite.
Enjoy it, 24 rocked for me.

katharine · February 13, 2007 at 05:59 PM

Happy Birthday and a happy valentine's day eve...from a very snowy and ice covered mid-west metropolis.

be happy you are not 31, like me....I am referring to that as the "new 21"

stilettoheights · February 13, 2007 at 05:59 PM

Happiest of birthdays to you! I think you will make your own sunshine.

rita · February 13, 2007 at 06:07 PM

Happy birthday to you! Hope you have a wonderful rest-of-your-birthday and an excellent Valentine's Day tomorrow.
Funny, I watched Pan's Labyrinth the other night, and I fondly recalled your beautiful portrait of Ofelia.

Maritza · February 13, 2007 at 06:08 PM

yay happy birthday! have a great day :)

lauren · February 13, 2007 at 06:11 PM

Happy Birthday, Emily!

I understand about your liking odd-numbered years and not liking even-numbered ones b/c I have a similarity. When I was pregnant with my daughter, and told she was due July 26th, I just didn't like that number at all. It didn't sound nice or exciting at all [to me]. I am glad she was born on July 30th because that date just sounds so much more exciting, and I do have to think about that date every single year now....

Of course I know my husband thinks I'm loony for saying so but it doesn't matter. It's how I feel about it.

So I understand! Hope this even-numbered year is a good one for ya!

Erika · February 13, 2007 at 06:29 PM

Happy Birthday!!!

You have a couple of months on me, but comes August I will be turning the big 2-4 as you did and there will be bells and whistles!

Jessica · February 13, 2007 at 06:31 PM

Happy Birthday eve Miss Emily. I can't wait to see what the next year has in store for you and, in turn, for us. Enjoy your journey and your sushi. Love the fabric in the new painting. Makes me want to crawl in next to her and snuggle buggle.

Stephanie · February 13, 2007 at 06:32 PM

Happy Birthday. Before I knew it was your birthday, I was thinking how "24" is a nice number. Have no idea why I was thinking that.

BTW, when I turned 25, I thought of myself as being almost thirty for the next 5 years. When I turned 30, it was disappointing to realize that I had wasted those 5 years thinking that way. I could have been 26, 27, 28, & 29, but never was. Boo hoo. :-)

Janvangogh · February 13, 2007 at 06:34 PM

JennyRebecca · February 13, 2007 at 10:23 PM

oh hooray and happy birthday! i have always found that the odd years are better too. i think i discovered the pattern once 16 was gone (quite a disappointment) and 17 was lovely, and it seemed to stretch back and also continue that way.

Happy(late) Birthday! I hope it was a wonderful one. I myself turned 24 a few months ago and still prefer 23! ;-) The only time I wanted to turn older was from 19 to 20. I did not enjoy 19! I love your work, it's darling and always wish I had enough daring to wear some of the clothes you do!

RAS · February 14, 2007 at 09:47 AM

tiffany · February 14, 2007 at 02:27 PM

Happy Birthday to you!
I actually thought you were much older, your wisdom, grace and creativity speak of someone wiser than their years... (that's a compliment!)

Sushi sounds wonderful.

i feel you on the odd-year thing in general, but let me say this, as one who will be 24 along with you for just one week... it was way, way, way better than 23. for me anyway.

Stella · February 14, 2007 at 03:31 PM

Wow! I can't even remember age 24- try inverting those numbers and you have my age..although i still feel 24!
Anyway, Happy Birthday, same day as my sis who just turned the big 4-0.
and love the sweet picture!

Tricia · February 14, 2007 at 03:33 PM

That's so weird--I have a hard time with the even numbers, maybe because that's when you hit the new decade?

Happy, happy day.
