Amy Cutler is a current love of mine, and it is my understanding that she is the darling of many capital "A" Art World people as well. Her only monograph-ish book can be found here, and is very inexpensive (as far as beautiful, hardbound art books go).
This article and interview is really interesting, from artnet.com, as is the intro essay to her book. There are alot of fascinating things that are criss-crossing and braiding up in my mind lately, mostly having to do with this book, Off With Their Heads by Maria Tatar, which I have been reading recently. It is essentially a book of literary criticism, but it broaches Fairy Tales as its subject, which is a fascinating notion in and of itself!
That book, as well as the essay that introduces Amy Cutler's book, both make reference to another book:
The Uses of Enchantment by Bruno Bettelheim, which seems to be a pretty definitive scholarly work on the subject of Fairy Tales.
Isn't it amazing when things begin to connect in your own little life and mind? Like a delicate network of rabbit-holes, bits of this and that and connective threads appear between an out-of-nowhere second hand book and a beautiful, very contemporary artist's book. I never tire of these small connections...the continuum of learning that stretches on and on.
I am not the greatest of readers or of learners, I know of many other people that are human sponges...soaking up words and names and thoughts with the same urgency as breathing in and out. I need to aspire to that way of living a bit more, I think, because I am completely and hopelessly seduced by those connective threads of thought between works, between minds.
Ramble,
Ramble,
Ramble.... Happy Sunday, my dears.
Endnote 1: Pirates 2 was great, huge, silly fun.
Endnote 2: We'll find out this evening if Strangers with Candy: The Movie makes the grade.

E & E movie dates are the best dates.
I've been wanting to acquire the human sponge trait as well. When you find out the trick, pass it my way.
